Details of the incident are still a bit sketchy and contradictory, but according to Salon.com’s War Room, last night in Thousand Oaks, California, a pro-health-care-reform activist was trying to get to a MoveOn.org-organized pro-health-care-reform rally when he had a confrontation with a 65-year-old pro-corporate, anti-health-care-reform, Archie-Bunker-esque assbite.
War Room reports that the 65-year-old BBA (baby-boomer asshole) first struck the pro-health-care-reform activist in the face, and then the pro-reform activist bit off the BBA’s little finger.
The Associated Press’ account of the incident seems to point the finger at the finger-biter, seems to make him out to have been the aggressor. I wasn’t there, so I don’t know what the hell happened.
I’m just surprised (and, OK, I’ll admit it, a little bit tickled) to see that, regardless of who started it, it was the progressive one who bit off the wingnut’s finger instead of vice-versa. Usually it’s the wingnuts who resort to such violence.
Of the incident, the AP wryly notes: “A hospital spokeswoman says the [BBA] lost half [of his left pinky], but doctors reattached it and he was sent home the same night. She says he [has] Medicare.” [Emphasis mine.]
Ironic that the BBA with Medicare coverage opposes government health-care programs…
Update: A revised AP news story gives the BBA’s name as William Rice and quotes Rice as saying that the tip of his pinky was not reattached. The revised AP story still notes that Rice is covered by Medicare… The biter remains at large.
