Yet another massacre from which the sheeple won’t learn a thing

Well, the internet noticed too.

If this guy is elected (or allowed to steal office a la 2000) in November, there will be more massacres. (More Photoshop jobs on this theme here…)

The United States of America is one big dysfuckingfunctional family.

Every once in a while, one of us snaps and kills a lot of people. The rest of us then all act shocked and horrified and say how “senseless” it was (when really we’re primarily just celebrating the fact that we weren’t among the body count), and then we go back to our lives of self-centeredness and greed that will help create the next massacre.

Every time one of these massacres occurs, I write essentially the same blog piece, but fuck it, as long as it keeps happening, I’ll keep writing the same blog piece. So here goes:

James Eagen Holmes, the 24-year-old accused of having blown away 12 people and injuring 58 others at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, early this morning, did not — I repeat, DID NOT — develop within a fucking vacuum.

No, I promise you, he developed entirely within a social context.

My guess is that Holmes has some screws loose, but the fact of the matter is that Holmes is just one of millions of young Americans whose nation has failed them beyond miserably.

The Associated Press reports that according to a neighbor of Holmes, “Holmes struggled to find work after graduating with highest honors in the spring of 2010 with a neuroscience degree from the University of California, Riverside.”

Holmes isn’t a drop-out pothead. The AP also reports of Holmes that he “enrolled last year in a neuroscience Ph.D. program at the University of Colorado-Denver but was in the process of withdrawing, said school officials, who didn’t provide a reason.”

Yes, Holmes was a Ph.D. candidate, one of our brightest young people. Neuroscience, for fuck’s sake. Sounds pretty close to a brain surgeon to me.

My guess is that like millions of his cohorts, and like millions of members of my generation (Gen X), Holmes graduated from college with a mountain of debt but with no good job prospects whatsofuckingever.

I, too, graduated (in 1990 — during the first George-Bush-induced recession) with a worthless bachelor’s degree but with student-loan debt, and I, too, initially returned to school (to get my master’s degree, which I ultimately didn’t get) because there were no jobs out there and I didn’t know what else to do. (At age 44, I still am a member of what my fellow Gen-X foaming-at-the-mouth leftist Ted Rall calls the “overeducated underclass.”)

Since the 1980s, under Ronald Reagan, who couldn’t blow the Wall Street weasels enough, our higher-education system stopped being about preparing students for good jobs. Those jobs, under the vulture capitalism that Mittens Romney and his ilk perpetrate, perpetuate and defend, have been evaporating from the United States these past few decades.*

The American higher-education system now is about, and for some decades now has been about, handing our young over to the student-loan sharks for their feeding frenzies. Our colleges don’t produce young people who are ready for the good jobs that await them — our colleges instead produce young people who start off in life neck-deep in debt to the student-loan sharks, struggling to survive by taking jobs that are way beneath their abilities.

Starting out like this, many if not most of them never even will catch up, but will lag behind for the rest of their days.

We lie to our youth about the importance of going to college and doing well so that they can get fulfilling, well-paying jobs — jobs that don’t fucking exist and haven’t for some decades now.

Our youth are punk’d royally, so of course they become angry and bitter.

True, not all of them shoot up a movie theater. They just become alcoholics and/or druggies and/or go on Big Pharma’s antidepressants and/or abuse those in their lives and/or immerse themselves in materialism and commercialism and/or become sex addicts or some other type of addicts and/or commit suicide.

Everything is connected, whether we want to acknowledge that fact or not. (And for the most part, we don’t. We prefer what we believe is the safety of our own little bubbles, even though are bubbles are not our own safe houses, but are our own fucking caskets.)

Blowhard Rush Limbaugh recently accused filmmaker Christopher Nolan (“Inception,” the latest “Batman” trilogy, etc.) of, in Nolan’s current “Batman” movie, modeling (or at least naming) Batman’s enemy Bane after Mittens Romney’s vulture capitalism outfit Bain Capital — in order to make a political, anti-Mittens statement.

(Bain, Bane — apparently one-syllable homophones mesmerize great minds like Limbaugh’s.

Of course, the “Batman” comic-book character of Bane was created in 1993, well before Mittens ever decided to run for the White House, but mere facts never stop the likes of Grand Dragon Daddy Limbaugh and his fans.)

It was at a midnight showing of the latest “Batman” installment, “The Dark Knight Rises,” that James Eagen Holmes committed his massacre, and yes, it seems to me, there is a Bain connection here: It is vulture capitalism run amock that created the socioeconomic context within which this latest massacre occurred.

As insane income inequality grows, the pain and suffering of the poor and the middle class and the working class increases, and yes, some of the victims of vulture capitalism do snap and act out.

The only thing that’s shocking is that we don’t see a whole fucking lot more of it.

James Eagen Holmes very apparently snapped under the pressures of the oppressive socioeconomic system that not enough of us fight against. If enough of us did fight against it, our oppression at the hands of the filthy rich, treasonous few would stop.

Instead, way too fucking many of us, such as cops (the taxpayer-funded security guards of the plutocrats, who, of course, pay no taxes themselves) and members of the U.S. military (a.k.a. cannon fodder for Big Oil), and, of course, the Repugnican Tea Party traitors, insanely side with our oppressors instead of with their fellow oppressed.

Better to curry favor with the oppressors, the rich and the powerful, than to be one of their victims, right? Of course, cops and soldiers and “tea party” dipshits are just as much victims as are the rest of us. These fools are the plutocratic oppressors’ tools, whether they realize it or acknowledge it or not.

Of course I don’t advocate massacres in movie theaters — I see a lot of movies myself, including at the Century Theatres in my area** — but it nauseates me to hear the same old predictable bullshit that the American sheeple bleat when massacres (Columbine, 9/11, this morning’s, etc.) are in the news.

We don’t understaaaaaaand, the sheeple bleat.

Yes, the sheeple do understand, at least dimly, at least on some level.

It’s that they don’t fucking care.

If they did, they’d have to change.

And that might even mean — gasp!having to fight.

The sheeple secretly would prefer more massacres of other sheeple.

P.S. Of course the Mittens and President Hopey-Changey campaigns had to weigh in on today’s massacre. They have to pretend to care about us, you see.

Mittens’ statement was:

“Ann and I are deeply saddened by the news of the senseless violence that took the lives of 15 [sic] people in Colorado and injured dozens more. We are praying for the families and loved ones of the victims during this time of deep shock and immense grief.  We expect that the person responsible for this terrible crime will be quickly brought to justice.”

“Senseless” violence. Right. A brilliant young man can’t find decent work in a nation that doesn’t give a flying fuck about him and sees no future for himself and so he snaps. “Senseless.” Makes no sense at all. None whatsofuckingever. Happened just out of the blue. Randomly. Just one of those things that no one possibly could even begin to explain.

Look how quickly Mittens was to pounce upon the idea of “justice” for the perpetrator.

It’s funny, because if those truly responsible for today’s terrible crime actually ever were brought to justice, Mittens and his treasonous, plutocratic ilk would be behind bars, where they belong.

But they can rest easy.

So-called “justice” is meted out only to the 99 percent of us, and almost never to the 1 percent.

If you kill a dozen people, like James Eagen Holmes apparently did today, and are a member of the 99 percent, you at least will go to prison.

But if you are a mass murderer and are among the 1 percent, like George W. Bush or Dick Cheney or Donald Rumsfeld or Condoleezza Rice — or yes, like Barack Obama, who loves assassinations (with and without the use of drones) and who loves keeping the traitors who comprise the military-industrial complex happy with billions and billions of our tax dollars that aren’t going to the things that we need, such as job creation, education, health care, environmental protection and infrastructure improvements — you are allowed to run loose.

It’s not just within the arena of the military-industrial complex that mass murderers go free. Corporations’ profits-over-people practices routinely kill scores and scores of innocent people, yet the corporatocrats get off scot-free — even though corporations, according to the right-wing U.S. Supreme Court, are “people.”

“Justice.”

Indeed.

Why would, how could, anyone snap in this oh-so-fair-and-just United States of America?

*The No. 1 goal of capitalism is not job creation, as the Repugnican Tea Party traitors among us proclaim. The No. 1 goal of capitalism is profiteering. Fucking duh.

Labor is expensive. Under American capitalism, if you can replace your American workers with machines or with other automated systems and/or outsource their jobs to sweatshops overseas, you do so in order to increase your profits.

The vulture capitalists are not job creators. They are wealth aggregators, as fucking evidenced by the fact that over the past several years the wealthiest have gotten even wealthier while the jobs have dried up and rest of us have gotten poorer.

If these treasonous plutocrats were job creators, there would be jobs.

There aren’t jobs because it isn’t about us. It’s all about them, the 1 percent.

**I will see “The Dark Knight Rises,” by the way. I love Anne Hathaway and the character of Catwoman, Nolan is a good director, and Tom Hardy is a hunk (OK, even though as Bane his face is obscured), so I’m there. I just generally avoid trying to see blockbusters on opening weekend.

You are much more likely to be killed in a car accident, or killed by a car while crossing the street, that you are to be shot dead in a movie theater.

Only Prick Santorum thinks that he should continue his quest

Karen Santorum, wife of Republican presidential candidate, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, center, talks to supporters as Santorum signs autographs during a campaign rally in Hudson, Wis., Friday, March 30, 2012. (AP Photo/Jae C. Hong)

Associated Press photo

No, wait — his wife (pictured with him above in Wisconsin on Friday) also thinks that he should keep going because it would be so cool to be first lady! So that’s two people.

Repugnican Tea Party presidential wannabe Prick Santorum won’t stop wailing and whining that it’s a great fucking idea for him to continue his impossible quest for his party’s 2012 presidential nomination, even all the way to the party’s convention in August.

In Wisconsin, where Prick will lose to Mittens Romney tomorrow, Prick proclaimed today: “I think it would be a fascinating display of open democracy, and I think it would be an energizing thing for our party to have a candidate emerge who’s a who isn’t the blessed candidate of the Republican establishment. I think that’s a good thing; it’s a good narrative for us. It makes this election a short election; the shorter this election in the fall, the better off we are, not the worse.”

I’m not sure exactly what Prick means by “the shorter this election in the fall, the better off we are.” Does he mean that if Mittens is declared the party’s 2012 candidate sooner rather than later, all of the additional time and attention focused exclusively upon Mittens will induce Mittens to lose in November? Does Prick even mean that the least amount of time and attention focused exclusively upon him, the better?

In any event, the Repugnican Tea Party candidate, whoever it is (but who very most likely will be Mittens), most likely will lose to incumbent Barack Obama anyway. While I suppose that it’s not absolutely impossible for the wooden, milquetoast multi-millionaire Mittens to somehow pull off a victory in November, I certainly can’t see Americans chosing Prick Santorum over Barack Obama.

(Indeed, recent nationwide polls* have shown Obama with a 2 percent to even an 11 percent lead over Mittens in a hypothetical matchup, but with a 5 percent to 14 percent lead over Prick.)

It was Prick Santorum’s having led the charge against women’s access not only to abortion (a right guaranteed to them in 1973 by the U.S. Supreme Court Roe vs. Wade), but also to birth control, for fuck’s sake, that no doubt has decimated women’s support of the Repugnican Tea Party presidential ticket in the crucial swing states.

Reports Yahoo! News today:

Female voters in battleground states are rallying around President [Barack] Obama in droves, according to a new USA Today/Gallup poll released [today], suggesting a gender gap could pose one of the Republicans’ biggest challenges in this fall’s general election race.

Obama led Mitt Romney by 18 percentage points among female registered voters in the nation’s top 12 swing states. The gender gap between Obama and Rick Santorum was 15 points. USA Today reports that this is the “first significant lead” the president has held in these key voting states.

Those leads represent big gains for the president, compared to previous swing state polls conducted by USA Today/Gallup, according to USA Today:

The biggest change came among women under 50. In mid-February, just under half of those voters supported Obama. Now more than six in 10 do while Romney’s support among them has dropped by 14 points, to 30 percent. The president leads him 2-1 in this group.

Recent Quinnipiac University polls conducted in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania bore out similar results. Female voters supported the president over Romney or Santorum by 6 to 19 percentage points in these three states.

Democrats are likely to use these poll numbers to fuel their argument that the Republicans are alienating female voters this cycle by focusing on women’s issues, something which is also likely to shape Democratic voter outreach efforts.

Democrats have branded congressional Republicans’ coordinated opposition to free birth control this year as well as Romney’s stated pledge to end Planned Parenthood as key actions in the Republican party’s “war on women.” (The party also lumps in conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh’s verbal attacks on Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke.) …

Attacking women’s right to use contraception was a huge fucking blunder that the incredibly fucktarded Prick Santorum primarily pushed. Mittens, who probably never would have broached the topic of contraception on his own, apparently didn’t want to be out-wingnutted by Prick and so he jumped onto the anti-birth-control bandwagon, and then when Grand Dragon Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute” for having promoted women’s right to access to birth control, the branding of the Repugnican Tea Party as the party against women’s right to access to birth control, for fuck’s sake, became cemented.

Prick Santorum, with his backasswards, “Christo”fascist, papal proclamations — with his far-right-wing worldview in which only staunchly conservative, white, (presumedly) heterosexual, “Christian” males have any rights and have the lion’s share of all of the power — already has damaged his party for the November 2012 presidential election, probably irrevocably so, yet Prick argues that the best thing for his party is for him to remain in the race for as long as possible.

Prick-friendly or potentially Prick-friendly states (Indiana, North Carolina and West Virginia) aren’t on the primary election calendar until next month, however, while Mittens should win Wisconsin tomorrow and five Northeastern states (including New York) plus the District of Columbia tomorrow and later this month, and if Prick loses his home state of Pennsylvania to Mittens on April 24, I don’t expect Prick to fight on even into next month.

There’s all of that and the fact that according to the latest Gallup daily tracking poll, Mittens now leads Prick 43 percent to 25 percent among the members of their party nationwide. That 43 percent is Mittens’ highest showing ever in the daily tracking poll in this election cycle, and Prick peaked in the daily tracking poll way back in mid-February, when the highest that he polled was 36 percent.

Prick has said that he’d be happy to be Mittens’ running mate — indeed, after having lost his last election (his 2006 re-election bid to the U.S. Senate for Pennsylvania) by a whopping 18 percentage points, being even vice president would be a big step up for Prick — but after the damage that Prick has caused Mittens, not only with the women’s vote but with his “Etch-A-Sketch” bullshit, I don’t expect Mittens to pick Prick, who pretty much is the male Sarah Palin. (I expect Mittens to try to appeal to the Latino vote and to the youth vote by picking the obnoxious Marco Rubio, U.S. Senator for Florida, who, like many if not most of his fellow Cuban Americans, has sold out to right-wing whites.)

The chance of an incredibly stupid, “Christo”fascist, Pope-Palpatine-ass-licker like Prick Santorum being only a heartbeat away from the presidency, however, probably would be enough to induce me to hold my nose and to give President Hopey-Changey some money and maybe even my vote.

*By “recent” I refer to the five nationwide polls posted on pollingreport.com that were taken between March 10 and March 26. Anything older than this, in my book, isn’t recent. The average of these five polls shows Obama 6.2 percent ahead of Mittens and 10.4 percent ahead of Prick. November is, at least today, looking pretty good for Obama.

Assorted shit Sunday!

Gallup polling: Prick Santorum remains in free fall

Associated Press photo

Except perhaps for the crying, it’s all over for Repugnican Tea Party presidential wannabe Prick Santorum (shown above feasting on ribs in Memphis, Tenn., today). His peak has passed and it’s all downhill for him from here.

Gallup’s daily tracking poll shows that Prick’s biggest national lead over permacandidate Mittens Romney was in mid-February, when Prick briefly enjoyed a 10-percent lead on Mittens, 36 percent to 26 percent.

Now, however, it’s Mittens at 36 percent and Prick at only 22 percent.

Toward the end of February, Prick lost his lead and was tied with Mittens, and since then, Mittens has been gaining while Prick has been losing.

The latest Gallup daily tracking poll shows Prick at only 5 percent ahead of Newt Gingrich, and if the trend continues — and I expect it to — within a week or two at the most, Prick will be back in the lower-tier Gingrich territory from whence he came.

What has killed Prick Santorum?

Two things, that I can see, right off: One, Mittens has been running for president for years, so Prick has been up against Mittens’ advantage in money and in organization. Even if Prick didn’t put not only his foot but his entire body into his mouth every time he spoke, it would have been an uphill battle against Mittens, who doesn’t know why he wants to be president, but only knows that he wants to be president very, very badly, like Gollum wanted that shiny ring.

Two, every time the insane Prick opens his mouth, abject insanity rolls out. Where to begin? Satan is responsible for the nation’s troubles. States should be allowed to outlaw contraception. Women should not be allowed to serve in combat roles in the U.S. military because of the “emotional” issues involved. The Dutch routinely involuntarily euthanize — that is, murder — their elderly in order to save on health-care costs. That’s just a partial list of Prick Santorum’s Greatest Hits.

It’s fairly clear that the more that the Repugnican Tea Party traitors have gotten to know Prick, the more concerned they’ve been that he cannot beat Barack Obama in November (because he cannot).

Some wingnuts claim that all of this drawn-out intraparty fighting is only making Mittens emerge an even stronger candidate. Bullshit. That’s just spin. Prick Santorum’s “Christo”fascist, batshit crazy pronouncements are turning women voters, sane voters and “swing” voters off from the Repugnican Tea Party in droves, and it’s fucking obvious that even Mittens’ own party isn’t crazy about him, or he would have been the clear front runner these past several weeks.

A primary season candidate who isn’t well-liked by even his own party cannot do very well in the general election. Fucking duh.

I killed Andrew Breitbart!

Andrew Breitbart was best known for his website Breitbart.com

AFP photo

The bombastic, tightly wound Andrew Breitbart (shown above in 2011) was a prime candidate for a heart attack. In the end, he killed himself — the best thing that he accomplished in his too-long life.

The news item “Andrew Breitbart Death Sparks Conspiracy Theories” remains in the top 10 of Yahoo! News’ most popular news stories right now, two days after its first appearance.

The wingnuts’ chatter is that “warrior” Breitbart was just about to release some “damning video footage” of a young Barack Obama, so that Breitbart’s death at age 43 sure looks suspicious!

Other wingnuts are more committed (and all of them should be committed): Barack Hussein Obama had Andrew Breitbart killed! There! Can! Be! No! Other! Explanation!

Don’t get me wrong. If Obama had Breitbart snuffed out, then I would start to support Obama again. (Thus far I haven’t given Obama’s re-election campaign one red cent, and thus far I don’t plan to vote for Obama again.) Seriously, Obama’s having Breitbart taken out would be at least something substantial toward his 2008 campaign promises of “hope” and “change.”

But watch any video footage of Breitbart’s explosive public appearances, and the question becomes why he didn’t die even sooner.

The bombastic, uber-type-A Breitbart was a tightly wound asshole, to put it mildly, and if such men in their 30s have heart attacks — and they do — then it’s no huge shock that Breitbart died and went to hell at age 43.

Now, apparently the braggart Breitbart did proclaim last month in D.C. at the Conservative Political Action Conference (which I think of as the Wingnuts’ Ball) that he had video footage of an Obama “from his college days to show you why racial division and class warfare are central to what hope and change was sold in 2008.” (Funny that the white supremacist Breitbart would accuse anyone else of “racial division,” and “class warfare” is perpetuated by the treasonous plutocrats whom the treasonous piece of shit Breitbart supported during his miserable, too-long life.)

But Breitbart also “proved” that Shirley Sherrod was a “racist” (via incredibly dishonestly edited video footage for which she sued him for defamation), remember? Breitbart’s credibility was for shit, and to believe that the petty, vindictive, self-promoting braggart Andrew Breitbart had anything substantial on President Barack Obama that no one else has come up with until now, the fourth year of Obama’s first term, is akin to believing that Obama is not a U.S. citizen (a right-wing myth/lie that persists to this day, even though the right-wing U.S. Supreme Court, which put George W. Bush into the White House, for fuck’s sake, repeatedly has refused to look into it).

Anyway, Andrew Breitbart died of natural (and quite karmic) causes, just as Barack Obama indeed is a U.S. citizen.

I don’t expect the results of Breitbart’s autopsy to be released publicly, though. They very most likely will show that the prime candidate for a heart attack actually died of a heart attack, and that isn’t the narrative that the wingnuts want to be told.

We have to blame the black guy in the White House for everything, you see — even for the deaths of wingnuts whose unhealthy lifestyle habits made them ticking fucking time bombs.

Rush is sorry — for the loss of advertising revenue

Sandra Fluke appeared before US lawmakers to argue that health insurance plans should cover the cost of contraception

AFP photo

Wingnutty bloviator Rush Limbaugh has likened his calling Georgetown University student Sandra Fluke a “slut” on his hate radio show to Bill Maher’s supposedly having called Sarah Palin a “cunt,” as though there were no difference at all between the two situations. (Fluke is shown above talking in D.C. on Feb. 23 on the topic of women’s access to birth control at an informal hearing convened by House Democrats after House Repugnican Tea Party traitors and misogynists allowed only anti-contraception men to “testify” in their “hearing” on birth control.)

I recently watched the video footage of fascist gasbag Rush Limbaugh calling a pro-contraception female college student a “slut.”

Limbaugh’s use of the misogynist epithet was quite deliberate. He was speaking slowly, clearly, deliberately. He didn’t call her a “slut” in a fit of rage.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. [Sandra] Fluke for the insulting word choices,” Limbaugh stated yesterday, in the midst of the fact that at least seven advertisers thus far have pulled their ads from his far-right-wing talk radio show.

What a fucking coward Limbaugh is, first calling a young woman a “slut” for supporting women’s rights (are men who want to use condoms or other forms of male birth control or Viagra or the like “sluts”? No, they’re “studs,” in Limbaugh’s misognynist, patriarchal world), and then lying through his fangs that he was trying to be “humorous.” No he fucking wasn’t. He was being quite venomous and quite serious, and only when there was backlash does he claim that he was only being “humorous.”

I hope that blowhard Rush Limbaugh drops dead right now and follows his fellow Archie Bunker clone Andrew Breitbart to hell.

Ha ha ha! I was only trying to be humorous!

But seriously, I would celebrate Grand Dragon Daddy Rush Limbaugh’s death even more than I celebrated Breitbart’s, and I cannot understand what political gain the Repugnican Tea Party traitors are hoping for in attacking women and women’s right to use birth control and to make other decisions regarding their own reproductive systems, a right that has existed for several decades.

When the Repugnican Tea Party traitors made homophobia one of their main platforms for traitor and war criminal George W. Bush’s “re”-election in 2004, they were picking on an historically oppressed minority group, as the Repugnican Tea Party cowards love to do.

But women make up 50.8 percent of the American population, and self-loathing women who agree with the misogynist, patrirarchal likes of Limbaugh (I call them cunts, because they are cunts*) are a minority of women.

Rolling out a campaign against women and their right to contraception was a huge fucking mistake. Team Obama must be giddy.

*Limbaugh, trying to defend his use of the word “slut,” claimed that Bill Maher has called Sarah Palin a “cunt.” Um, Sarah Palin and her ilk are cunts because their fascistic ideology and their support of fascism harms many people, earning them that title, and there’s a huge difference between calling a college student who spoke in D.C. on women’s reproductive rights a “slut” and a woman who sought high national political office a “cunt.”

Palin made herself fair game when she decided to make herself such a high-profile public figure. For Limbaugh to attack a young woman who is not nearly the public figure that Palin is, however, is indicative of how cowardly and craven the death-deserving Limbaugh is.

My bad — it was triplets, not twins

Andrew Breitbart

Associated Press photo

Three peas in a pod.

Yesterday I noted that white-supremacist race-baiter Andrew Breitbart and Archie Bunker were separated from birth.

But the Whore of Babylon had one more demon seed inside of her: Rush Limbaugh, who, terrified of irrelevance, chimed in on the Shirley Sherrod debacle.

Limbaugh blasted Faux “News'” host Shepard Smith for not having run with Breitbart’s clip of Sherrod altered to paint her as a whitey-hater.

Smith said: “We on Studio B did not run the video and did not reference the story in any way for many reasons; among them: We didn’t know who shot it, we didn’t know when it was shot, we didn’t know the context of the statement, and because the history of the videos on the site where it was posted. [Emphasis mine.] In short, we did not and do not trust the source.”

Smith’s “crime,” you see, was to have shown a minimum degree of journalistic integrity instead of having marched in lockstep with his colleagues at Faux. (Um, my guess is that Smith was the only one at Faux who didn’t show Breitbart’s clip.)

“There are only a handful of us that have the guts to put this story straight,” the grammatically challenged Limbaugh huffed and puffed. “If we don’t hammer back, nobody will. We got a bunch of cowards in the conservative media inside the Beltway which will not deal with this honestly.”

Yeah, the white man is such an endangered species that he needs to “hammer back.”

And the white man is so brave that he has to make an unprovoked attack upon a black woman — a black woman whose integrity is such that the white man has to lie that she’s a racist.

The new, ACTUAL axis of evil

Trifecta! Repugnican Sarah Palin-Quayle delivering the keynote address at a “tea party” convention covered by Fox “News” in February. If this isn’t a sign of the end times, I don’t know what is.

In my last post I invented the “Unholy Trinity of Wingnuttery” — FOX “News” and other right-wing propaganda outlets, the Repugnican Party and the “tea party.”

Timely, because today CREDO Action announced today that “After tens of thousands of votes, FOX News has earned the title of champion of the Bracket of Evil.”

Yes, Fox “News” beat out Sarah Palin-Quayle, the “tea party” dipshits, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney, among others, as the most evil person or group of persons in CREDO Action’s rounds of voting in its “Bracket of Evil” over the past month or so.

And speaking of FOX “News,” FOX “News” head honcho Rupert Murdoch recently had the hypocritical gall at the National Press Club to bash the New York Times as biased. (Non-fucktarded media, you see, have a “liberal bias.” Intelligence = socialism. Fucktardation = patriotism. God bless America!)

Murdoch even said this: “We have both sides in our news shows, our politics or whatever. We have Democrats and Republicans and whatever.”

Yeah, whatever. (Great public speaking skills there, Mr. Murdoch!)

Let’s see — FOX “News” has Repugnican Sarah Palin-Quayle on its payroll and covers the very same “tea party” gatherings that it promotes. But the New York Times is biased!

FOX “News” is a textbook example of how concentrated wealth and power in the mass media can subvert democracy into serving the interests of the wealthy.

The mass media, the “fourth estate,” are a critical part of the workings of politics, power and democracy, which is why the plutocratic elite control so much of the mass media and furiously are consolidating media outlets so that common Americans have fewer and fewer options and get their information from fewer and fewer (corporate, of course) sources.

It’s funny that it’s FOX “News,” because it’s the fox guarding the henhouse. Oh, yeah, thechickens can trust the fox to give them reliable, fair and balanced information that is in thechickens’ best interest.

Also in the news is one of the other branches of the Unholy Trinity of Wingnuttery, the “tea party” “movement.” Reports The Associated Press today:

St. Paul, Minn. – Several tea party leaders announced plans [today] to form a national federation to promote the movement’s conservative message and to counter the idea that the tea parties are politically unsophisticated and disorganized.

Tea party leaders from Memphis, Tenn., Richmond, Va., and Orlando, Fla., along with representatives of several other groups announced the new National Tea Party Federation during a rally outside the Minnesota Capitol. They said 21 tea party groups around the nation had joined the federation.

Memphis Tea Party founder Mark Skoda said recent media coverage had questioned whether the conservative tea parties, which number in the thousands nationwide, were too loosely organized to be politically effective in the national midterm election.

He said the federation intends to convey a unified message about the tea party’s brand of fiscal conservatism, which emphasizes limited government, less public spending and free markets….

Um, “federation” or “confederacy”?

Looks to me like the election of the nation’s first black president has many Americans (a minority, but still a sizeable minority, and certainly a vocal one) wanting to form a separate nation again…

As far as the third branch of the unholy trinity — the Repugnican Party — goes, it’s hard to say how much FOX “News” harms vs. helps the party. It seems to me that having a networkdedicated to your “cause” could only be more helpful than harmful. Sure, FOX “News” solidifies those of us on the left, but FOX “News” also misinforms millions who believe everything that they see and hear on the tay-vay.

If the “tea party” splits the Repugnican vote, however, that could spell real trouble for the Repugnican Party. And the “tea party” also is driving Repugnican candidates even further to the right. Notes Yahoo! News:

… [The] popular anger stirred up under the [FOX  “News”] network’s auspices may not be an unqualified boon to a GOP facing a tough primary season that pits many “tea party”-style insurgents against candidates aligned with the national [Repugnican Party] organization.

Two of the most prominent such races are the [U.S.] Senate contests in Florida and Arizona, where two more compromise-minded mainstream candidates, Charlie Crist and John McCain, are fending off challenges from candidates backed by the “tea party” — and running strongly to the right of their usual positions as a result.

Beyond the primaries, the GOP is looking to make significant headway against the Democratic majorities in Congress — hoping even to return the House to Republican control. But to do that, Republicans will have to overcome their disadvantage in voter registration in many districts by appealing to independent voters — and those are the very sorts of voters most likely to be repelled by an angry ideological message….

I would think that the “tea party’s” influence on elections would cause more overall long-term harm than benefit to the Repugnican Party. The more right-wing candidates can win the Repugnican primaries, but they struggle in general elections except in the redder regions of the nation.

White supremacism and racism, misogyny and patriarchy, homophobia, “Christo”fascism, xenophobia, jingoism and militarism — to name just a few of the “values” that the “tea party” stands for, whether it will admit it or not — do not appeal to those demographic segments of the nation that are growing, but appeal only to certain demographic segments of the nation that are shrinking.

The “tea party,” aided and abetted by FOX “News,” it seems to me, very well might end up speeding up the demise of the Repugnican Party.

In the meantime, I remember when “President” George W. Bush named, in his 2002 State of the Union Address, Iraq, Iran and North Korea as the “axis of evil.”

Funny, because Iraq certainly never posed a threat to the United States, and thus far Iran and North Korea haven’t harmed the United States, but FOX “News,” the “tea party” and the Repugnican Party eat away at the fabric of our democracy every fucking day, bringing us closer to ruination of our nation than the members of the unelected Bush regime’s “axis of evil” ever could hope to – without their having to launch a single missile, or, indeed, having to lift a single fucking finger.

Is this the face of the future?

This undated photo provided by the San Mateo Sheriff's department ...

Associated Press photo

So this 48-year-old virgin (well, if I had to bet on it, I’d put my money on his still being a virgin) was arrested by the FBI yesterday for allegedly having harassed and threatened Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi via telephone.

The Associated Press reports that

Several federal officials said [the man] made dozens of calls to Pelosi’s homes in California and Washington, as well as to her husband’s business office. They said he recited her home address and said if she wanted to see [her home] again, she would not support the health care overhaul bill that since has been enacted.

The wingnut, Gregory Lee Giusti, of San Francisco, at least actually resides in or around the district that Pelosi represents…

The AP gives some interesting tidbits about Giusti, such as that he apparently managed to speak directly to Pelosi via telephone at least once, but I found this one to be the most interesting:

Sister Lorna Walsh, community operations manager of the Mercy Housing complex where Giusti lives, said he had lived in the subsidized housing for almost 10 years.

Subsidized housing?

Um, isn’t that socialism?

What kind of follower of Ayn Rand is this guy?

But seriously, this guy seems to have significant emotional and social issues, and he’s just the kind to be riled up by the right wing, with its talk of “reloading” and fighting the “tyranny” (um, democratically elected lawmakers and leaders democratically passing legislation is democracy, not “tyranny,” just because you disagree with them ideologically).

Of course, when one of these wingnuts really goes off the deep end and kills someone, or maybe blows some shit up, killing many, the right-wing noise machine will claim no responsibility whatsofuckingever.

Yet all you have to do is go over to the Repugnican National Committee’s website and see things such as a PhotoShop job of Nancy Pelosi engulfed in flames, reminiscent of the good old days of witch burning, or see her on the RNC’s home page (as I type this sentence, anyway) portrayed as a wicked puppet master.

Pelosi isn’t the democratically elected speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, you see.

No! She’s an uber-villainess who must be destroyed!

Hey, I’m all for free speech, but if anything serious happens to Pelosi or to President Barack Obama or to one of the other favorite targets* of the Trinity of Wingnuttery — the Repugnican Party, the “tea party” and FOX “News” (I’ll include Rush Limbaugh and all of the other wingnut commentators with FOX) – then we have that unholy trinity to blame. Squarely.

I don’t peruse the wingnut blogosphere — I find that idea as palatable as taking a trip to the bowels of hell — but my guess is that the wingnuts already are making a martyr out of Giusti, ignoring the fact that threatening the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives is a federal offense, and are asserting that she-tyrant Nancy Pelosi will have the FBI come get you next!

Pelosi and Obama are the two Democrats the wingnuts hate the most; Pelosi’s main crime is that she presides while possessing ovaries, and Obama’s, of course, is that he presides while black.

I’m not sure which one of them the right-wingers hate more, and perhaps it’s a quandary for them as to whom they should hate more: the liberated woman or the black guy. (The RNC, at least, seems to use hatred of Pelosi more than it uses hatred of Obama in order to raise money. I mean, isn’t “Pelosi” Italian for “Satan”?)

What this nation really needs is a black lesbian president.

Then, the wingnuts will just spontaneously combust.

*Speaking of targets, I just can’t post this graphic from Repugnican and “tea party” queen Sarah Palin-Quayle’s Facebook page often enough:

And I find it interesting that Palin-Quayle has been involved with all three branches of the Trinity of Wingnuttery, the “tea party,” FOX “News” and the Repugnican Party.

War on right is war on ignorance

My boyfriend and I were in a Borders bookstore last night, and in the politics section I saw a paperback copy of Hannah Arendt’s The Origins of Totalitarianism on a shelf right above Glenn Beck’s hardcover Arguing with Idiots. (That Glenn Beck should accuse others of being “idiots” with “small minds” — that’s mind-blowing…)

I picked up and placed the copy of The Origins of Totalitarianism immediately to the right of Beck’s Arguing with Idiots, giving something of the effect above, as it seems so appropriate: If Beck wants to dress and act like a Nazi, well, then, if the jackboot fits, then he should wear it (and he probably does wear jackboots, prancing around in them in private…). And further, it seems to me that Beck and his ilk indeed could be the originators of an American totalitarianism that would make the Taliban jealous.

Of course, the battle between the left and the right rages beyond the politics sections of bookstores, where it’s common to see books representing the political opposition (usually progressives) turned around so that their covers are obscured. (Books featuring the visages of our lesser-evolved primate cousins also have appeared juxtapositioned to books whose covers feature Barack Obama’s face. Ha ha ha! Racism is so funny!)

President Obama has even chimed in on the national political “vitriol,” but the common assertion that the left is just as guilty as is the right in denigrating the national political discourse — a myth that even Obama himself occasionally parrots, in an apparently well-meaning but woefully misguided attempt to be fair and balanced, to spread the blame around, whether it’s actually factually accurate to do that or not — is fucking bullshit.

The right always has been more rabid, more racist, more ignorant, more hateful and more willing to resort to aggression to get what it wants than has the left. In the past decade alone, the American right resorted to stealing presidential elections, started a bogus major war, and gave the rich such tax cuts that, coupled with the hundreds of billions of dollars sunk into the bogus Vietraq War, resulted in a record federal budget deficit that the right now blames on Obama, and the right has created a surreal, down-the-rabbit-hole national political climate in which it’s deemed perfectly fine to piss hundreds of billions of the taxpayers’ dollars away on the war profiteers, such as Dick Cheney’s Halliburton, but it’s “socialism” to actually spend a fucking penny of the taxpayers’ money on the taxpayers

And I don’t recall any leftists having spat on Repugnican lawmakers on Capitol Hill during the eight long nightmarish years of the Bush regime’s unelected rule, or calling them epithets, or hurling bricks through their office windows. I don’t recall any Democratic politicians talking about “reloading” and using the symbol of a gun-sight crosshairs to target their political opponents.

I only wish that the peacenik lefties were nearly as guilty as are the wingnuts in being rhetorically or even actually aggressive.

Lefties almost always have to remain above it all, such as how Al Gore had to remain above it all and just allowed Team Bush to steal the White House in late 2000.

The results of “remaining above it all” and just allowing the wingnuts to wreak their havoc upon the nation are plain to see in the smoking ruins of the nation that the treasonous members of the unelected Bush regime left behind when they finally were forced from the White House. There comes a point where “remaining above it all” no longer is remaining above it all at all, but is a dangerous dereliction of duty to democracy.

Also at Borders last night I saw a copy of Chris Hedges’ Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle, the premise of which, I understand from its back cover, is that the switch from a primarily print culture to a primarily audiovisual culture has resulted in a dangerous dumbing down of the United States of America, a danger to the nation’s democracy, which cannot survive when so many of its citizens are dumbfucks. (I’m buying Hedges’ book on amazon.com, as paying full cover price when I don’t have to pains me too much.)

I’m all for greater literacy, but just as it has hijacked our democracy, the right wing has hijacked what remains of the print culture. Chillingly, I long have seen far more wingnut books than progressive books on amazon.com’s top-100-selling books list.

The right wing is busily rewriting American history to suit is ideology in a way that would make George Orwell’s history-revising Big Brother jealous. And the stupid-white-male authors and broadcast pundits who have the audacity to liken themselves to the nation’s founding fathers are as much like the founding fathers as the likes of Pat Robertson and the pedophile-protecting Pope Palpatine are like Jesus Christ.

Sure the wingnuts read books, you say — but they read right-wing revisions not only of American history, but right-wing revisions of American principles. And then they inflict their ignorance upon the rest of us.

In their “tea party” bullshit, the wingnuts actually equate the nation’s declaration of its independence from the oppressive English monarchy to their dislike of the democratically elected American president whom they don’t like primarily because he’s black and because their old-white-guy candidate lost the election, 46 percent to Obama’s 53 percent.

The wingnuts also have hijacked the term “common sense,” both as a noun and an adjective. Sarah Fucking Palin-Quayle can’t shut the fuck up about “common-sense” this and “common-sense” that, and, of course, Glenn Beck put out a book titled Glenn Beck’s Common Sense, as though a dry-drunk baby boomer like Glenn Fucking Beck is really on the same level as is Thomas Paine.

And that’s what the term “common sense,” as the wingnuts use it, is meant to achieve: It’s meant to say that you don’t have to be educated, that you don’t have to work at attaining knowledge and wisdom. “Common sense,” as Beck and Palin-Quayle and their ilk use the term, means that whatever utter bullshit that you pull out of your mentally lazy, ignorant, wingnutty ass is the gospel fucking truthbecause you say so.

In her chapter titled “Junk Thought” in her worthwhile The Age of American Unreason, author Susan Jacoby talks about “the folk belief in the superior wisdom of ordinary people.”

“Folk belief” there is the key.

Ordinary people can become intelligent and wise — but not without doing the work.

There are no shortcuts, although that is what the right wing promises its followers: Simply wearing a lapel pin of the U.S. flag makes a politician “patriotic,” and simply reading a book by Sarah Palin-Quayle or Glenn Beck makes one “politically educated.” (And, of course, simply declaring onself “saved” makes one “saved.”)

Listening to — or even reading — the likes of Beck or Palin-Quayle or Rush Limbaugh, because their retrogressive, reality-evading worldview is comforting in rapidly changing, rapidly diversifying times, doesn’t cut it.

Ignorance will destroy the nation, and the fight against the right wing ultimately is the fight against ignorance.

A return to a fact- and reality-based print culture, as many authors (such as Jacoby and Hedges and yes, even Al Gore) have recommended probably is the answer. The Internet, I suspect, already has been playing a large role in bringing Americans back from the purely audiovisual, purely one-way medium of television to an interactive print culture. Sure, there’s plenty of garbage on the Internet, but there’s plenty of quality stuff available, too.

I, for one, stopped watching television years ago, after all of the major, corporately owned and operated TV networks treated the unelected Bush regime’s illegal, immoral, unprovoked and unjust March 2003 invasion of Iraq as an entertainment or sporting event (“shock and awe!”) instead of covering it journalistically — that is, critically, intelligently and objectively. And I credit the Internet with having facilitated my political knowledge and activism.

Of course, the wingnuts are on the ’Net, too.

But the more that the nation returns to a fact- and reality-based national political dialog, the less the right wing can survive.

Ignorance is the right wing’s oxygen, and the way to snuff out the right wing is to deprive it of its oxygen.
