NBC, CNN should call Rethugnicans’ bluff

Reports The Associated Press:

Washington — The Republican National Committee charged [yesterday] that NBC and CNN are promoting a potential presidential candidacy by Hillary Rodham Clinton, threatening to blackball [the two networks] from future [Republican Party] primary debates if they air upcoming programs on the former secretary of state.

RNC chairman Reince Priebus called a planned NBC mini-series on Clinton and a CNN documentary on the first lady an “extended commercial” for a future Clinton presidential campaign. In separate letters to the networks, he urged them to cancel “this political ad masquerading as an unbiased production.”

Clinton has not yet said whether she’ll run for president again in 2016, but her future remains the subject of wide speculation in political circles and beyond. The primary debates typically provide a ratings boost for the networks and are highly coveted as the presidential campaign unfolds.

In making the charge, the RNC was raising a common complaint among Republican activists that news and entertainment industries favor Democratic candidates. Republicans have also used a potential Clinton campaign as a fundraising tool in recent months as both parties begin to assess the crop of candidates to succeed President Barack Obama.

CNN Films is planning a feature-length documentary film on the former first lady, looking at her professional and personal life. It will be led by Oscar-winning director and producer Charles Ferguson and is expected to air in 2014.

NBC has announced a miniseries called “Hillary,” starring actress Diane Lane. No air date has been announced but it is timed to be released before the 2016 presidential election. NBC has said the four-hour miniseries will follow Clinton’s life and career from 1998 to the present. …

The RNC gets to dictate the networks’ programming?

Really?

And it’s hilariously ironic, because it was Repugnican icon Ronald Fucking Reagan who killed the so-called “fairness doctrine” in 1987, allowing CNN and NBC to air programming about Billary Clinton if they so choose.

But when the results of Reagan’s action aren’t favorable to their party, the Rethugnicans cry “foul.”

Love her or hate her — and I don’t much like her myself — but Billary Clinton is a public figure of significant public interest, which makes her an appropriate subject for a documentary or even a mini-series. And the networks have the First-Amendment right to produce such programming if they so fucking choose.

NBC and CNN should tell the blackmailing Rethugnicans to go fuck themselves and proceed with their programming.

Who, after all, really needs whom?

Billary Clinton thus far is beating all of the potential 2016 Repugnican Tea Party presidential candidates in nationwide polls, which apparently has Reince Priebus (that’s “major prick” in Greek) & Co. shitting their pants. If she weren’t such a threat, I can’t see them trying to dictate the networks’ programming in the Repugnican Tea Party’s favor.

The AP article linked to above claims that coverage of the the Repugnican Tea Party presidential primaries is ” highly coveted,” but aren’t the votes of the American people in a presidential election also highly coveted? Would the Repugnican Tea Party not shoot itself in the foot by disallowing any of the networks to cover any one of its presidential primary debates?

Are the party’s presidential primary debates not also “political ads,” to use Priebus’ own words?

Again, CNN and NBC should ignore the Rethugnican Party’s pathetic, desperate, anti-democratic blackmail attempt and proceed as they wish.

If the Repugnican Tea Party can’t win the war of ideas, then too fucking bad. It has no fucking right to try to manipulate and rig the marketplace of ideas itself.

P.S. Further on the topic of Billary, while it certainly is possible that “Billary fatigue” might harm her campaign, should she decide to run for president for 2016, unless another high-level Democratic candidate emerges, I still think that the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination is Billary’s if she wants it.

It would take someone like, say, Al Gore or Howard Dean, I think, to give Billary a run for her money for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, as Barack Obama did in 2008, and thus far we’ve had no indication that someone on that level has any intention of running for 2016.

Whether or not Billary could win the White House is another story, of course.

Recent nationwide polls put Repugnican Chris Christie from 4 percent to 6 percent behind Billary, a lead that Christie, should he decide to run (and I’m pretty sure that he will), might not have such a hard time erasing, especially if (when?) “Billary fatigue” fully kicks in.

But could the so-called “moderate” Christie make it alive out of the Repugnican presidential primary season, which is much ideologically purer (that is, much more right-wing) than is the presidential election itself? Will the Repugnican Tea Party traitors have the sense not to nominate their party’s biggest fascist, but to nominate their party’s candidate who has the best chance of actually winning the White House?

It’s too early for all of this, I hear some readers groaning. My response to that is No, it’s not too early to prevent control of the White House from reverting back to the Rethugnican Party in 2016.

Barack Obama hasn’t done nearly enough to get us out of the abyss that George W. Bush & Co. left us in, but another Repug in the White House will only dig our hole even deeper.

Only a Wayback Machine can save the Repugnican Tea Party now

The Repugnican Tea Party traitors should consider hiring Mr. Peabody as a consultant, and they’ll need to go back to even before 1900…

So the Repugnican Tea Party traitors’ talking point now is that in order to win over voters from now on, they have to communicate better.

Wow.

They’ve been communicating quite well, actually. Anyone who has been paying attention should be quite clear on where they have stood. Take the Repugnican Tea Party’s platform that was approved from its last national convention. This is Faux News reporting, too (in August):

Tampa, Fla. — Republicans emphatically approved a toughly worded party platform at their national convention Tuesday that would ban all  abortions and gay marriages, reshape Medicare into a voucher-like program and cut taxes to energize the economy and create jobs. …

There alone, the Repugnican Tea Party traitors alienated most women and almost all non-heterosexuals (there are some self-loathing non-heterosexuals who support the Repugnican Tea Party, but there aren’t a lot of them). There’s no way to “better” “communicate” such stances as that the embryo’s or fetus’ “rights” always trump those of the mother (even, very apparently, in such cases as rape, incest or when the mother’s life would be at risk should the pregnancy continue) or that the U.S. Constitution should be amended to ban same-sex marriage in all 50 states.

Those are the hard-right, misogynist, homophobic and patriarchal stances that the Repugnican Tea Party took in its latest party platform, which wasn’t passed nearly long enough ago for the fascistic traitors who comprise the party to claim now that they just didn’t “communicate” well enough.

It’s not just women and gays whom the Repugnican Tea Party traitors have alienated, of course.

Most of the traitors still are beating up on the brown-skinned immigrants from south of the border, whom they regard as subhuman, much as how the Nazis regarded the Jews and how the Israelis, ironically, now regard the Palestinians.

Ohioan “Joe the Plumber,” one of the poster boys for the stupid white man, who last year ran for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives on the Repugnican Tea Party ticket (of course) declared in Arizona — Ground Zero for the anti-immigrant bigotry and hatred in the U.S.; indeed, Arizona is the South Africa of the Southwest — in August that the U.S. government should “put a damn fence on the border going with Mexico and start shooting.” Those were the words of a candidate for a federal office.

Let’s not leave out black Americans, of course.

A huge chunk of the Repugnican Tea Party traitors still maintain that Barack Obama was born in Kenya and thus his presidency is illegitimate — as though if there had been any problem with Obama’s constitutionally mandated qualifications to be president, neither Billary Clinton nor John McCainosaurus, who must have spent plenty of dough on opposition research and who both wanted to be president very badly, would have discovered it and then worked to oust Obama from the 2008 presidential race.

Michelle Obama can’t do anything without being criticized for it by the white-supremacist wingnuts as being un-first-lady-like. What if Laura Bush — or (shivers) First Lady Ann Romney — had announced the Oscar for Best Picture? Would the Repugnican Tea Party traitors have brayed that that was “inappropriate”?

Of course not — because their main problem with Barack Obama and his wife is that they’re blacks who are in the White House.

And even while we have some of the Repugnican Tea Party traitors claiming that they just need to “communicate” “better,” as I type this sentence we have most of the members of the Repugnican Tea Party publicly hoping that the right-wing-controlled U.S. Supreme Court will eviscerate the Voting Rights Act of 1965 — because despite the fact that the Repugnican Tea Party still advocates measures that keep blacks and other non-whites and other Democratically leaning individuals from voting, such as strict voter identification requirements (in the name of preventing the “voter fraud” that does not exist — that’s in their party platform, too) and insanely long voting lines for black, non-white and other Democratically leaning voters (coupled, of course, with short lines for Repugnican Tea Party voters), race-based voter suppression is a relic from the past, you see.

And if the Repugnican Tea Party traitors can’t suppress enough Democratically leaning voters, fuck it, they’ll just at least try to change the way that we divvy up the electoral votes in the Electoral College, but only in those states that will boost the Repugnican Tea Party. (We’ll leave Texas and the other dark-red states alone, you see.)

It’s clear that the Repugnican Tea Party traitors like, respect and support democracy only when they win/“win” elections. (The quotation marks are for such elections as the 2000 presidential election.) You can’t “communicate” that obvious fact “better.”

We also have Mittens Romney’s comment in October that “47 percent” of Americans are mooches, when, in fact, it’s the 47 percent who voted for Romney who are the takers, while the denizens of the blue states (the “47 percent” whom Romney was referring to) always have been and always will be the makers, supporting the welfare states that are the red states.

Muslims, too, have been bashed relentlessly by the Repugnican Tea Party — aside from advocating the continued mass slaughter of Muslims (such as by incredibly stupidly attacking Iran and by stupidly blindly continuing to support the mass-murderous wingnuts of Israel in their continued Nazi-like mass slaughter of the Palestinians), the Repugnican Tea Party traitors call President Obama a Muslim as a slam — and I can’t see most Muslims ever supporting the Repugnican Tea Party any more than I can see myself ever supporting the Repugnican Tea Party.

As a gay man, am I to just forget what the Repugnican Tea Party just put in its fucking party platform — that my equal human and civil rights guaranteed to me by the U.S. Constitution should be denied to me by an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that specifically singles me out for such discrimination? Am I to just forget that George W. Bush made opposition to same-sex marriage a centerpiece of his 2004 “re”-election campaign? (Speaking of Gee Dubya, am I also to just forget that he blatantly stole office in 2000 and then started a bogus war for which he should be executed as the war criminal that he is?) Am I to just forget that the House Repugnicans right now are spending millions of taxpayers’ dollars to try to keep the so-called “Defense of Marriage Act” alive because the Obama administration refuses to defend the blatantly unconstitutional — and thus the infuckingdefensible — act?

Are women just supposed to forget the Repugnican Tea Party traitors’ clearly articulated stances on such issues as abortion, birth control, rape and violence against women?

Are Latinos just supposed to forget the brown-skinned-immigrant bashing that the Repugnican Tea Party traitors have been using to induce ignorant, bigoted white voters to vote for them?

Are blacks just supposed to forget?

“We need to be asking for votes in the most powerful way possible, which is to have people asking for the vote who are comfortable and look like and sound like the people that we’re asking for the vote from,” Karl Rove (a.k.a. George W. “Bush’s brain”) said just yesterday just in my backyard, here in Sacramento, at the California Repugnican Tea Party traitors’ convention.

How has that tactic been working for the Repugnican Tea Party traitors, though?

They fronted Sarah Palin after Barack Obama had picked Joe Biden (and not Billary Clinton or another woman) to be his running mate. The message was supposed to be that the Repugnican Tea Party is the party that wuvs women.

Women didn’t buy it, and probably were insulted that the Repugnican Tea Party traitors think that they’re that fucking stupid. (I was thusly insulted, and I’m a male.) Despite Palin’s supposedly having demonstrated that the Repugnican Tea Party overnight magically became the party of and for women, Obama in November 2008 won a higher percentage of the popular vote than George W. Bush did in 2000 or in 2004, and he couldn’t have done that without women.

The Repugnican Tea Party traitors then put Michael Steele in charge of the Repugnican National Committee — as the first black head of the party, in obvious cynical response to the election of the nation’s first black president. (Steele, before he became the head of the party, had been only the lieutenant governor of Maryland. That’s how few blacks are in any real position of power within the Repugnican Tea Party.)

Although on Steele’s watch (from January 2009 to January 2011) the Repugnican Tea Party traitors won back the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010 (in the “tea party” “revolution”), the Repugnican Tea Party traitors nonetheless dumped Steele in January 2011 and replaced him with white frat boy Reince Priebus — the usual face of the party.

And although the Repugnican Tea Party traitors lost seats in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012, on white frat boy Reince Priebus’ watch, just this past January the Repugnican Tea Party traitors nonetheless granted the stupid white man Priebus a second two-year term as head of the Repugnican Tea Party.

As George W. Bush amply demonstrated, the bar is set much, much, much lower for stupid white men than it is for anyone else, perhaps especially for blacks.

Now the Repugnican Tea Party traitors cynically are fronting younger Latino male candidates, such as U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, as a presidential hopeful, and, here in California, Abel Maldonado as a gubernatorial hopeful.

Rubio is a 41-year-old Cuban American, and of course Cuban Americans, being (1) the rich Cubans who had exploited others for their own selfish gain before they had to escape from Fidel Castro’s anti-capitalist revolution or (2) their spoiled spawn (such as Rubio), predominantly are right-wingers who believe that the lighter-skinned should continue to exploit the darker-skinned.

Yet almost two-thirds of Latinos in the U.S. have Mexican roots and only 3.5 percent of them have Cuban roots. So how representative is Marco Fucking Rubio of the nationwide Latino community? (But he’s Latino — close enough, right? Is that not how the white supremacists think? Kind of like how 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia and not one of them was from Iraq, but let’s invade Iraq because that’s close enough, right?)

Californian Repugnican Tea Party member Abel Maldonado is 45 years old, and while unlike Marco Rubio he is Mexican-American, he couldn’t win even the post of state controller in 2006 or lieutenant governor in 2010. And he ran for the U.S. House of Representatives last year but lost. And he is Californian Repugnicans’ Great Latino Hope.

When will the Repugnican Tea Party traitors realize that the voters can recognize a wolf in sheep’s clothing? Will Marco Rubio (and others who fit his demographic) magically work to win over Latino voters to the Repugnican Tea Party any more than Palin and Steele worked to win over women and black voters?

And is Karl Rove not blatantly asserting that appearance is all that matters when he advises his fellow Repugnican Tea Party traitors “to have people asking for the vote who are comfortable and look like and sound like the people that we’re asking for the vote from”?

Fuck substance, right? Fuck the Repugnican Tea Party’s continuing history of oppressing certain groups of people, right? Just put a right-wing sellout like Sarah Palin or Michael Steele or Marco Rubio out there and the voters won’t know the difference, right?

The Repugnican Tea Party traitors can find a wingnut or two (or maybe even three) among any minority group and front him or her or them as a candidate. It’s not nearly enough, though, to wipe out decades of the party’s bigotry and discrimination that not only is historical but still continues as I type this sentence.

Perhaps especially when the Repugnican Tea Party then blames its electoral losses on the tokens whom it once fronted and then replaces them with the traditional stupid white men (there was no Palin repeat in 2012 — no, it was two stupid white men on the Repugnican Tea Party presidential ticket, the way that it always had been pre-Palin, and, as I noted, Reince Priebus kept his job as the party’s head even though the booted Michael Steele apparently had done a better job than Priebus did) the party loses even more ground with the groups whose votes it claimed it wanted. You won’t score points with these groups by turning your tokens into your scapegoats.

Even Mittens Romney, for fuck’s sake, reportedly has manned up enough to blame his campaign for his loss in November.

“I lost my election because of my campaign, not because of what anyone else did,” Romney reportedly said on Faux News today.

However, while Romney reportedly quite correctly identified his “47 percent” remarks as being damaging to his campaign — insulting almost half of the nation’s voters on video isn’t a great idea — he also reportedly attributed his loss to the loss of black and Latino voters.

As much as I don’t want to defend Mittens Romney, who would have been a disastrous president, the fact is that there was nothing that his campaign could have done to win over black and Latino voters, given his own fucking party’s disastrous historical relations with those groups.

Actually, I guess that I’m not defending Mittens, because his apparent belief that there was anything that he could have done to magically win over black and Latino voters demonstrates, I think, how stupid he and his ilk believe black and Latino voters are, and how superiorly crafty and clever the white man is, that black and Latino voters are just going to forget decades of bigotry and discrimination at the hands of the Repugnican Party because some white-male Repugnican Tea Party candidate comes up with just the right hocus-pocus, mindfuck rhetoric to hypnotize them into voting for him over their own best interests.

No amount of attempted-Jedi-mindfuck rhetoric and no amount of tokens (like Marco Rubio or Sarah Palin) are going to help the Repugnican Tea Party traitors in future elections. Only a small percentage of the members of the minority groups that historically have been oppressed by the Repugnican Tea Party (and women, of course, are no minority group) are going to fall for this the-foxes-actually-wuv-the-chickens bullshit.

No, what the Repugnican Tea Party traitors sorely need now is a time machine so that they can go back in time — waaay back in time — and treat certain groups of people a whole lot better than they did over at least many decades.

I wish them luck with that.

The predictable political deaths of Palin and Steele

Orlando Sentinel photo

Michael Steele and Sarah Palin embrace at a rally in Orlando, Florida, in October.

Repugnican National Committee chair Michael Steele, the RNC’s first black chair, has dropped out of the race to lead the RNC for the next two years, and we’ll never see a President Palin. (Sarah’s chances before this week weren’t good anyway, but her incredibly narcissistic and sociopathic response to the massacre in Tucson on Saturday sealed her fate.)

But it’s not like either Palin or Steele really had the love of the Repugnican Party anyway.

Repugnican John McCainosaurus chose Palin as his running mate after Barack Obama rather than Billary Clinton had emerged as the 2008 Democratic presidential candidate. The choice of Palin was, in large part, a cynical ploy to convince the nation’s women that the Repugnican Party, not the Democratic Party, is the true party of feminism — never mind that Palin sets women back by several decades.

The Repugnican Party, you see, believed (perhaps still believes) that women are stupid.

And shortly after Obama took office in January 2009, the RNC, in a cynical ploy to convince the nation that the Repugnican Party is just as friendly to blacks as is the Democratic Party, put Michael Steele, whose highest post had been lieutenant governor of Maryland, in charge of the show. (That the best that the RNC could do was the former lieutenant governor of a tiny state shows how many high-ranking blacks within the party the RNC had to choose from.)

Two years later, Steele got the boot, and a white man (surprise surprise) probably will be his replacement.

True, Steele, as the majority of Repugnicans are, is a bumbling idiot, but another factor in his ouster, I believe, is that his skin color didn’t magically make the Repugnican Tea Party any more attractive to those outside of the white supremacist set.

And Sarah, Sarah, Sarah.

Palin was not, I surmise, supposed to try to go beyond being John McCainosaurus’ running mate, but, as she put it herself, she “went rogue” and made herself the fascistic face of the Repugnican Tea Party. Palin was supposed to have been just a prop, but she very apparently had ambitions of her own. (With emphasis there on “had.”)

Had the “tea party” element of the Repugnican Party been more successful on Election Day in November (significant “tea party” losses included Joe Miller’s, Sharron Angle’s and Christine O’Donnell’s for the U.S. Senate), the Repugnican Party might have been willing to tolerate Palin for a while longer, but the “tea party” is sputtering out, and this past week proved that Palin is becoming much more of a liability than an asset for the traditional GOP.

And now, the true face of the Repugnican Party has re-emerged in the white-male faces of the likes of Speaker of the House John “Cry Me a River” Boehner, Darrell “Joseph McCarthy Jr.” Issa and Reince Priebus, the Repugnican Party chair of Wisconsin, who probably will succeed Steele (and who apparently is meant to cynically appeal to the youthful vote, since previous appeals to the women’s vote and the non-white vote didn’t work out so well…).

And not a single female or non-white face is among those who are considered to be serious contenders for the 2012 Repugnican Tea Party presidential nomination. (Indeed, stupid white male presidential wannabe Mitt Romney already is jet-setting around the globe like some sort of shadow president, which I find to be rather treasonous, at least in spirit if not in the letter of the law.)

Sarah Palin and Michael Steele were lame attempts to con the country into believing that the Repugnican Party is diverse.

But the country didn’t buy the con job, and now that they no longer are needed, the Repugnican Party has relegated Steele and Palin to the dustbin of history.

P.S. Moments after I posted this, the breaking news came that Reince Priebus has been named the new head of the RNC.

So here is the new face of the Repugnican Party:

Priebus attends a debate among five candidates ...

If they’re right, what are they worried about?

US government sues Arizona over immigration law

AFP photo

Arizona’s two U.S. Senators, stupid white men John McCainosaurus and John Kyl, both Repugnicans, of course, have slammed the Obama administration’s filing of a federal lawsuit against their state’s planned illegal racial profiling against Hispanics, which is set to begin July 29.

The Repugnican Party elite predictably are whining that the Obama administration today made official its lawsuit attempting to strike down Arizona’s unconstitutional and racist anti-brown-person law.

The federal lawsuit against the South Africa of the Southwest proclaims, in part, “In our constitutional system, the federal government has pre-eminent authority to regulate immigration matters. This authority derives from the United States Constitution and numerous acts of Congress. The nation’s immigration laws reflect a careful and considered balance of national law enforcement, foreign relations, and humanitarian interests.”

Yup. That’s a little civics lesson for the fucktards of Arizona.

Of course, the white Repugnican politicians in Arizona, such as the Borg Queen governor, Jan Brewer, and presidential loser Sen. John McCainosaurus, don’t actually give a fuck about the issue of immigration nearly as much as they just want an easy political target for their upcoming elections in November, and the relatively poor and powerless Hispanics are fairly easy to sacrifice on the bloody Repugnican altar. (It was gays and lesbians whom the Repugnican Party sacrificed for the dumbfuck vote in 2004, recall; this election year it’s the Hispanics.)

Brewer and McCainosaurus and their ilk also want to get Brownie (er, whitey?) points from their white supremacist supporters for symbolically having taken on the nigger in the White House by pushing an unconstitutional, reprehensible anti-immigrant law that they knew the White House would oppose. (Fuck you. You know it’s true.)

Bottom line is, when the economy tanks, the bleating masses start beating up on immigrants. That’s what happens around the world, and that’s what’s happening here in the “melting pot.”

Of course, the Repugnican elite are all too happy to have the uneducated, skinheaded Joe the Plumbers and Dale the School Bus Drivers blame the poor and the powerless brown-skinned for the nation’s economic nosedive instead of the real culprits, the filthy rich white crooks who have bled, and continue to bleed, this nation dry.

In any event, if the white supremacist Repugnicans (I know, redundant…) of Arizona are so sure that their new little law is constitutional, why do they blast the Obama administration for challenging it in the federal court system?

Surely if they’re right, they’ll be vindicated legally.

(But they aren’t, so they won’t be.)

 Michael Steele, anti-affirmative-action poster boy?

Michael Steele

Associated Press photo

Repugnican Party head Michael Steele probably could have gotten away with his history gaffe, but stating that the Afghanistan war, which his party launched and wholeheartedly supports, is unwinnable, probably is the last straw for the party’s first black chairman, who is the result of affirmative action gone wrong.

On Jan. 30, 2009, I blogged:

Apparently we’re supposed to believe that the Repugnican Party no longer is racist because the Repugs just selected a black man as the chair of the Repugnican National Committee.

Uh, this is the very same political party for which a white guy who also ran for the chairmanship included on his CD promoting his campaign for the party chairmanship the songs “Barack the Magic Negro” and “The Star-Spanglish Banner.”

And because Sarah Palin-Quayle is a female, that doesn’t mean that the Repugnicans suddenly are feminists, either. (Palin-Quayle, among other things, such as being a “Christo”fascist and a global-warming denier, is anti-choice.)

The selection of Sarah “Heartbeat Away” Palin-Quayle was just a knee-jerk Repugnican response to Billary Clinton; apparently women voters were supposed to have just flocked to Repugnican John McCainosaurus in droves because Barack Obama rather than Billary had won the Democratic presidential nomination.

Just as Palin-Quayle was only a reflexive response to Billary Clinton, so new Repugnican Party chair Michael Steele, former lieutenant governor of Maryland, is only a reflexive response of the Repugnican Party to the election of Democrat Barack Obama as president.

Both Steele and Palin-Quayle are stupid white men on the inside, regardless of the color of their skin and regardless of what’s between their legs.

I once heard (in person) Al Sharpton say of Condoleezza Rice (I paraphrase): “Condoleezza Rice is of my color, but she is not of my kind.”

I’m confident that Sharpton would say the same of Steele.

Steele’s selection is indicative of the Repugnican Party’s desperation, not of its sudden redemption.

I stand by that rant, and boy, have things taken a turn for Steele.

Look how hard the Repugnicans had to hunt for a black guy within their party to counter the election of Barack Obama — the best that they could do, apparently, was a former lieutenant governor.

The Repugnicans long have wanted to dump the fumbling and bumbling Steele, but he’s held on thus far.

However, his recent remarks on the war in Afghanistan that President Barack Obama started the war, which Steele deemed a war of choice, when, in fact, it was “President” George W. Bush who started the war in Afghanistan in October 2001, before his unelected regime launched the Vietraq War in March 2003, and that the war in Afghanistan is unwinnable, when the Repugnican Party supports the war because the Repugnican Party supports perpetual warfare for the war profiteers and for Big Oil and other corporate cronies — should be the good excuse that the Repugnicans have been looking for to dump Steele, which they’ve been reluctant to do up to now because they didn’t want to look racist.

Look, they cynically picked Steele because they’re racist.

Clearly the man is a dipshit who wasn’t qualified for the job but who met the main job requirement that his skin isn’t white. Steele’s selection as head of the Repugnican National Committee seems to have been the result of bizarre Repugnican affirmative action — bizarre because Repugnicans historically have trashed affirmative action as being the hiring or promotion of unqualified or underqualified non-whites or women over more qualified white men.

Pundits don’t expect Steele to be booted before the November elections, however. They do, however, expect him to lose his job in January, when the chairmanship of the RNC is up for grabs again.

Does New Orleans need a mercy killing already?

Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse for post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans, The Associated Press reports today that now oil from the ruptured British Petroleum well in the Gulf of Mexico — Hey, is that thing still spewing oil? We don’t hear much about that anymore because they finally fixed it, right? Right??? — is seeping into Lake Pontchartrain.

My rather modest proposal is that we just nuke the holy living fuck! out of New Orleans right now!

Put them out of their misery, you know.

Give them the final relief of knowing that probably nothing worse could happen to them after that.

Just my own rather modest proposal.

Steele banks on Repugnican stupidity

Yesterday I called Repugnican National Committee head Michael Steele a liar.

I hadn’t planned to write more about his lies about this past weekend’s special election in Hawaii, but then today I got a fundraising e-mail in his name regarding Hawaii’s special election results, and the e-mail makes it clear that the Repugnican Party’s “leadership” has no problem whatsoever lying to its own supporters — especially if by lying to them the Repugnican Party’s “leaders” can get their dupes to give the party some money.

In an e-mail from the RNC (yes, I’m on the enemy’s e-mail list) titled “One Step Closer to Firing Nancy Pelosi,” which I received today, Steele (or his ghostwriter) writes:

Dear Robert,

This weekend, thanks to the generous support of RNC Sustaining Members like you [I’ve never given the Repugnican Party a single fucking penny in my entire life, so why the e-mail calls me a “sustaining member” I have no idea], Charles Djou was elected to the U.S. House in Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District.

The race was decided by only a few thousand votes. Democrats and liberal special interests were determined to keep this seat in Democrat hands — a seat they had held for nearly 20 years — and flooded the district with party operatives and millions of dollars in campaign cash.

Despite the Democrats’ tactics, the RNC’s voter contact and get-out-the-vote programs helped push our GOP candidate over the top. The RNC made roughly 70,000 voter contacts — phone calls and door knocks — to ensure Republicans and like-minded Independents voted for Charles Djou.

This victory is another step toward Republicans regaining a majority in the U.S. House, firing Nancy Pelosi as Speaker and putting our country back on the right path. But we can take nothing for granted. We must work harder than ever to ensure our candidates at all levels have the necessary resources to defeat the Democrats this fall.

Please help keep the momentum going. Your secure online contribution of $25, $50, $100 or $500 to the Republican National Committee today will help our Party stay on track to nationwide victories in the 2010 midterm elections.

With your continuing support, Robert, we will retake the U.S. House, reclaim the U.S. Senate and elect more Republican governors and state legislators in November. Thank you again for helping our Party win a historic victory in Hawaii, and moving us one step closer to firing Nancy Pelosi.

Sincerely,

Michael Steele
Chairman, Republican National Committee

P.S. Robert, Charles Djou’s victory in the special election to the U.S. House in Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District is another example that our Party can win anywhere in the country when we have a principled, conservative candidate backed by the RNC’s network of grassroots supporters. Help ensure our vital 2010 candidate support and party-building programs keep moving forward by making a secure online gift of $25, $50, $100 or $500 to the RNC today. Thank you.

Wow.

Nowhere in the e-mail does Steele divulge that Djou won less than 40 percent of the vote to the almost 60 percent of the vote that his two Democratic challengers won — thus, Steele’s implication that the U.S. House district in Hawaii has flipped Repugnican from Democrat due to the Repugnican Party’s hard work is bullshit.

Nor does Steele bother to tell us in the fundraising e-mail that Djou is expected to lose his new seat in November — when, according to The Christian Science Monitor, unlike was the case in this past weekend’s special election, only one Democratic candidate may run against Djou, who must run again in November if he wishes to try to keep his new seat.

So Djou has less than six months to turn his less-than-40-percent support into the kind of support that can fend off the around-60-percent Democratic support that was evident in this past weekend’s special election — in a district that historically has been Democratic.

It’s highly unfuckinglikely that Djou will be able to do that.

Thus, it’s highly unfuckinglikely that Djou will be able “[move the Repugnican Party] one step closer to firing Nancy Pelosi,” since come November his congressional district most likely will elect a Democrat to replace him.

So the tactic of the fundraising e-mail was to lie about what Djou’s weekend win really means, and then to raise the specter of — gaaaaah!Nancy Pelosi! — in order to get Repugnican Party supporters riled up enough to give the party money.

You know, if you have to lie to your supporters like that, your party is probably far, far more fucked than you’d ever let them know.

Because then, they most likely wouldn’t give you any money.

Is this the face of the future?

This undated photo provided by the San Mateo Sheriff's department ...

Associated Press photo

So this 48-year-old virgin (well, if I had to bet on it, I’d put my money on his still being a virgin) was arrested by the FBI yesterday for allegedly having harassed and threatened Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi via telephone.

The Associated Press reports that

Several federal officials said [the man] made dozens of calls to Pelosi’s homes in California and Washington, as well as to her husband’s business office. They said he recited her home address and said if she wanted to see [her home] again, she would not support the health care overhaul bill that since has been enacted.

The wingnut, Gregory Lee Giusti, of San Francisco, at least actually resides in or around the district that Pelosi represents…

The AP gives some interesting tidbits about Giusti, such as that he apparently managed to speak directly to Pelosi via telephone at least once, but I found this one to be the most interesting:

Sister Lorna Walsh, community operations manager of the Mercy Housing complex where Giusti lives, said he had lived in the subsidized housing for almost 10 years.

Subsidized housing?

Um, isn’t that socialism?

What kind of follower of Ayn Rand is this guy?

But seriously, this guy seems to have significant emotional and social issues, and he’s just the kind to be riled up by the right wing, with its talk of “reloading” and fighting the “tyranny” (um, democratically elected lawmakers and leaders democratically passing legislation is democracy, not “tyranny,” just because you disagree with them ideologically).

Of course, when one of these wingnuts really goes off the deep end and kills someone, or maybe blows some shit up, killing many, the right-wing noise machine will claim no responsibility whatsofuckingever.

Yet all you have to do is go over to the Repugnican National Committee’s website and see things such as a PhotoShop job of Nancy Pelosi engulfed in flames, reminiscent of the good old days of witch burning, or see her on the RNC’s home page (as I type this sentence, anyway) portrayed as a wicked puppet master.

Pelosi isn’t the democratically elected speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, you see.

No! She’s an uber-villainess who must be destroyed!

Hey, I’m all for free speech, but if anything serious happens to Pelosi or to President Barack Obama or to one of the other favorite targets* of the Trinity of Wingnuttery — the Repugnican Party, the “tea party” and FOX “News” (I’ll include Rush Limbaugh and all of the other wingnut commentators with FOX) – then we have that unholy trinity to blame. Squarely.

I don’t peruse the wingnut blogosphere — I find that idea as palatable as taking a trip to the bowels of hell — but my guess is that the wingnuts already are making a martyr out of Giusti, ignoring the fact that threatening the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives is a federal offense, and are asserting that she-tyrant Nancy Pelosi will have the FBI come get you next!

Pelosi and Obama are the two Democrats the wingnuts hate the most; Pelosi’s main crime is that she presides while possessing ovaries, and Obama’s, of course, is that he presides while black.

I’m not sure which one of them the right-wingers hate more, and perhaps it’s a quandary for them as to whom they should hate more: the liberated woman or the black guy. (The RNC, at least, seems to use hatred of Pelosi more than it uses hatred of Obama in order to raise money. I mean, isn’t “Pelosi” Italian for “Satan”?)

What this nation really needs is a black lesbian president.

Then, the wingnuts will just spontaneously combust.

*Speaking of targets, I just can’t post this graphic from Repugnican and “tea party” queen Sarah Palin-Quayle’s Facebook page often enough:

And I find it interesting that Palin-Quayle has been involved with all three branches of the Trinity of Wingnuttery, the “tea party,” FOX “News” and the Repugnican Party.

Another GOP deception debunked

I’m on the Repugnican National Committee’s e-mail list — know thy enemy — and RNC chairweasel Michael Steele is credited with having written this in an RNC fundraising e-mail that I received this morning:

Barack Obama recently said, “I think private insurers should be able to compete…. If you think about it, UPS and FedEx are doing just fine. It’s the Post Office that’s always having problems.”

The President is acknowledging what Republicans have been saying all along: That the private sector does a better job offering choices and delivering services to customers in a competitive and cost-effective manner than a government-run monopoly.

But Obama and liberal Democrats in Congress are pushing for a government-run health care scheme that is inefficient, limits choices and hemorrhages taxpayer money like the Post Office.

Two weeks ago, the Post Office was called a “high-risk” federal agency by the Government Accountability Office. The Post Office will have a $7 billion operating loss this year. So what makes the President, Nancy Pelosi and their left-wing allies think that government bureaucracy can run health care better than the private sector?

Robert, it’s clear Americans simply aren’t buying into the Democrats’ government-run health care experiment. They are waking up to the fact that the Democrats are trying to strip us of more of our freedoms all in the name of their “government knows best” philosophy.

Your generous support of the RNC is critical to laying the foundation Republicans need to defeat the Democrats and stop their leftward push to control every facet and detail of our lives.

Please help the RNC recruit and train the next generation of conservative Republican candidates who are committed to our core values of limited government, fiscal discipline and personal responsibility by making a secure online contribution of $1,000, $500, $100, $50, or $25 today.

No matter how the President and his liberal allies try to spin it, they cannot escape the fact that his government-run health care plan would increase costs, increase taxes, increase the deficit and reduce health care choice and quality.

Robert, we can win this fight and stop the Democrats from another government takeover. Please give as generously as you can to help defeat Barack Obama’s risky health care scheme.

OK, first off, the most obvious: Comparing the U.S. Postal Service and private-sector delivery services like FedEx and UPS to health care is like comparing pineapples to oranges.

Secondly, the U.S. Postal Service was established in 1775 — it hardly was some “government takeover” of what the private sector already had been doing better.

Thirdly, the U.S. Postal Service is not funded primarily by the American taxpayer, as the RNC e-mail implies; it’s funded primarily by its sales of postage and other postal services and products.* In this respect it’s much like a government-owned business.

Last but not least, the main reason that the U.S. Postal Service is having a budget crisis now can be summed up in a word: the Internet.

The 200-plus-year-old USPS had quite an infrastructure in place before the Internet boomed. (Indeed, only Wal-Mart employs more civilians in the United States than does the USPS.) Now, with e-mails and online transactions and other Internet-based communications that make the USPS unnecessary, the USPS indeed is hemorrhaging money.

But again, that’s because of the Internet, which drastically reduced the need for the USPS’s services — within what, only about a decade? — not because the government can’t do things as well as can the private sector.

The private-sector United Parcel Service (UPS) and FedEx developed in the shadow of the U.S. Postal Service. That is, their business models and infrastructure were developed around the long-pre-existing USPS, and they are much, much younger than the USPS — and, of course, their volume is much lower than that of the USPS — so if FedEx and UPS are doing OK right now while the USPS is struggling, that’s why.

Speaking of the private sector, I hate having anything delivered by UPS. The UPS drivers stick around for maybe five seconds after ringing the doorbell before they fly back inside their trucks and zoom off. That’s what corporate greed causes: given a delivery quota, the UPS drivers don’t have time to wait even 10 seconds for you to answer the fucking door, I surmise.

And because a UPS package once went missing from my porch, UPS refuses to leave packages at my address ever again — but UPS only delivers during business hours from Monday through Friday, when I’m at work. So I have to have any UPS packages redirected to my boyfriend’s place in order to actually receive them. (UPS will leave my redirected packages at my boyfriend’s place — but they won’t leave my packages at my own home. That’s corporate logic for you.)

For me, UPS hardly has been convenient or timely or efficient — and their employees are mildly friendly at best. The U.S. Postal Service will leave packages on my front porch — and delivers on Saturdays. And their employees are much friendlier than are UPS employees, probably because USPS employees are taken much better care of than are UPS employees, who are only corporate slaves.

Better taken-care-of employees are happier employees, and happier employees do a better job. Under the corporate model, in which you extract everything that you can from your employees while giving them as little in pay and as little in benefits as you can, happiness is impossible for a sane individual.

No, the profits-over-people private sector can’t do it better than the government can do it.

Yes, the U.S. Postal Service is struggling and is downsizing due to the impact of the Internet and, let’s not forget, due to the impact of the shitty economy in general. (Newspapers and other printed media also are suffering — are downsizing or folding altogether — due to the unexpected, relatively sudden rise of the Internet and the BushCheneyCorp-induced shitty economy.)

Again, the U.S. Postal Service’s woes are not because the government can’t do anything right, and the RNC fundraising e-mail falsely implies that President Obama actually agrees with the Repugnicans’ philosophy that privatization is superior.

While Steele is at it, he even gets the “freedom” meme in there, even though his and his fellow Repugnican overlords’ central interest certainly is not Americans’ freedom, but is corporations’ ever-increasing profits. Corporate profiteering — even from basic human needs like health care — far from giving them more freedom, turns average Americans into slaves to the corporations.

Perversely Orwellianly, the Repugnican/wingnut noise machine calls continued slavery to corporations “freedom” and calls any attempt to free Americans from corporate slavery “tyranny.”

The Repugnicans not only blatantly mislead and lie to their own supporters, whom they want to enslave to their corporate interests, but then ask their supporters to give them donations afterward.

*According to a recent CNNMoney.com article:

Contrary to what many people might guess, the USPS is not a government agency. It hasn’t received direct subsidies since the early 1980s. Aside from a miniscule fraction of its budget for free mail services for the blind and Congress’ franking privileges, the Postal Service pays its own way with postage revenues, which in fiscal year 2008 reached $75 billion.
