Dick the tease

The Associated Press reports that 69-year-old Dick Cheney’s latest heart attack was his fifth one since he was 37 years old.

Cheney (shown above in a photo taken before he attended Barack Obama’s inauguration in D.C.) had what the AP reports was a “mild heart attack” yesterday.

Every time that you hear that Dick has been taken to the hospital you hope that this is it, but, not to be outdone by Freddy or Jason, he is expected to be released from the hospital any time now.

Many, many deserving people can’t get adequate health care, but war criminals get the best health care possible. There’s no justice.

‘Benedict Brown’ tea-bagged

Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass. addresses the Conservative Political ...

Associated Press photo

Wingnuts are fucktards.

They’re bashing Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown (shown above at the Wingnuts’ Annual Ball last week) for being a “turncoat” because of his support for a Democratically authored jobs-creation bill.

Retards: Scott Brown is a U.S. senator for Massachusetts. Although he’s a Repugnican, Massachusetts remains predominantly blue. Therefore, he can’t be the Nazi that you’d like him to be if he wants to get re-elected when his term is up in a couple of years.

Two other New England Repugnican senators who voted along with Brown against a Repugnican filibuster of the jobs-creation bill were Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine. Notes the AP:

Snowe and Collins … “survive in New England by a unique set of rules,” said Dante Scala, political science professor at the University of New Hampshire.

He said: “The way they survive with voters in their homes state is by making it clear that, first and foremost, they’re the servants of their constituencies, not the party label. So, they’ll make a point of defying their party and going their own way.”

Brown got little such leeway, despite campaigning as an “independent Republican” and publicly eschewing national supporters.

The political realities of the great blue state of California also disallow Repugnican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger from being the Nazi that the “tea party” dipshits would like him to be.

Schwarzenegger this week alone defended the Obama administration’s stimulus package, stating that it has benefited California “tremendously,” criticized Repugnican politicans who have opposed the stimulus package (but who have reaped its political benefits anyway), and stated that the Repugnican idea that Obama’s health care plan should be scrapped and started over from scratch is “bogus,” “partisan” talk

Schwarzenegger isn’t running for re-election, either, as he can’t; he terms out in less than a year.

He probably just doesn’t want to go to hell, and thus figures that he actually should do what politicians should be doing: trying to help people.

Stimulation accomplished

From The Associated Press today:

Washington – The economic stimulus law added between 1 million to 2.1 million workers to employment rolls by the end of last year, a new report released [today] by congressional economists said.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office study also said the $862 billion stimulus added between 1.5 to 3.5 percentage points to the growth of the economy in 2009. The controversial stimulus law combined tax breaks for individuals and businesses with lots of government spending.

The report reflects agreement among economists that the measure boosted the economy. But the wide range of estimates means it won’t resolve the debate over how effective the stimulus has been.

The White House says the stimulus bill has created 2 million jobs and will add another 1.5 million this year as economic recovery continues to take hold.

CBO projects that the stimulus measure to have a greater impact this year, boosting gross domestic product by 1.4 to 4 percentage points and lowering the unemployment rate by 0.7 to 1.8 percentage points.

The report said the most efficient parts of the stimulus include infrastructure projects such as road- and bridge-building and more generous unemployment benefits….

The economy has shed 8.4 million jobs since the start of the recession in December of 2007, though job losses have slowed in the past couple of months.

The stimulus measure has earned mixed grades from a public weary of a bad economy and increasingly concerned about out-of-control budget deficits. Democrats are seeking to renew several parts of the stimulus, however, including aid for state governments and extended unemployment insurance benefits for the long-term jobless….

I’m no economist, but it’s irrefutable the nation started hemorrhaging jobs on BushCheneyCorp’s watch and is recovering under the Obama administration’s watch.

Yet the “tea party” fucktards, like chickens swearing their allegiance to Colonel Sanders, oppose the president who apparently slowly but surely is turning the Titanic back around.

Really: It takes a special kind of fucktard to work against one’s own fucking interests.

Steeling from the donors?

Michael Steele, chairman of the National Republican Committee, ...

Associated Press photo

Politico has a story on how many Repugnicans are furious that Repugnican National Committee chair Michael Steele apparently has been on a spending spree. The first three paragraphs:

Republican National Chairman Michael Steele is spending twice as much as his recent predecessors on private planes and paying more for limousines, catering and flowers – expenses that are infuriating the party’s major donors who say Repugnicans need every penny they can get for the fight to win back Congress.

Most recently, donors grumbled when Steele hired renowned chef Wolfgang Puck’s local crew to cater the RNC’s Christmas party inside the trendy Newseum on Pennsylvania Avenue, and then moved its annual winter meeting from Washington to Hawaii. [The news photo above was taken late last month in Honolulu…]

For some major GOP donors, both decisions were symbolic of the kind of wasteful spending habits they claim has become endemic to his tenure at the RNC. When Ken Mehlman served as the committee chairman during the critical 2006 midterm elections, the holiday party was held in a headquarters conference room and Chic-fil-A was the caterer.

What’s the problem?

The Repugnicans chose Michael Steele in January 2009 as a knee-jerk response to the November 2008 election of President Barack Obama; they wanted to show the nation that Hey, they can be hip, too!

Obama and Steele have lots in common, including their love of stimulus packages and hanging out in Hawaii, apparently.

Speaking of Hawaii, hey, has anyone checked Steele’s birth certificate?

Maybe the Repugnicans can oust him that way, before he completely empties the safe.

Brown is the new white!

In this image made from video, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal delivers ...

Associated Press photo

Look! This brown guy is a Repugnican!: Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (shown above) was chosen by the Repugnicans to deliver their response to President Barack Obama’s quasi-State of the Union address because the Repugnicans won’t be outdone by the Democrats where it comes to hipness. While the woman-hating Democrats didn’t choose Billary Clinton as the 2008 Democratic presidential nominee, for instance, the uber-hip Repugnicans chose rabid feminist Sarah Palin-Quayle as John McCainosaurus’ running mate. Because the Repugnicans are progressive!

Every time the Repugnicans want to counter President Barack Obama, it seems, they counter him with a relatively younger, brown-skinned Repugnican (of whom there are precious few).

Late last month the Repugnicans chose former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, who is black, as the new chair of the Repugnican National Committee, and they chose Repugnican Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who is of Indian descent, to give the response to President Obama’s quasi-State of the Union address tonight.

The Repugnicans can’t attack Obama on the grounds of his substance or his popularity — about two-thirds of Americans approve of Obama’s job performance thus far and approve of the economic stimulus package — so they try to match Obama’s physical appearance and demographics by trotting out some younger, brown-skinned guy who sold his soul to the Repugnican Party.

“Look! We’re as hip as the Democrats!” the Repugnicans — whose party is going the way of the dinosaurs that they don’t believe in — are saying.

Since the Repugnicans refuse to go on substance, I guess that I will, too. I won’t go into the details of Obama’s quasi-State of the Union address or Jindal’s pathetic response, except to say that it’s pretty fucking funny to hear a Repugnican call the economic stimulus package “irresponsible.”

Because clearly, the past eight fucking years have demonstrated amply that the Repugnicans, who have the support of only about a third of the nation right now, are all about responsibility.

P.S. OK, if you want substance, I’ll explain it yet once again: the Repugnicans’ problem with the economic stimulus package is not that it is the “irresponsible” spending of tax dollars; after all, Repugnican “President” George W. Bush ran up the largest federal budget deficit in the nation’s history, in no small part because of the bogus Vietraq War that he launched in March 2003 for the war profits of Dick Cheney’s Halliburton and the other war-profiteering subsidiaries of BushCheneyCorp.

No, that’s not irresponsible, to steal hundreds of billions of dollars from the U.S. Treasury and hand it to stupid rich white men via the bogus war in Vietraq — while the nation crumbles.

Spending the taxpayers’ dollars on things that the taxpayers actually need, such as job development, education, health care and infrastructure — now, that is the height of irresponsibility!

What’s next? Secession? (I hope!)

Updated Saturday, February 21, 2009 (see below)

Red-state and especially Southern Repugnican (that’s pretty redundant…) governors are at least considering to refuse some of the funds that would be offered to their states as a result of the economic stimulus package that was democratically passed by the U.S. Congress.

Reports Politico today:

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal announced [today] that he will decline stimulus money specifically targeted at expanding state unemployment insurance coverage, becoming the first state executive to officially refuse any part of the federal government’s payout to states.

In a statement, Jindal, who is slated to give the Republican response to President Barack Obama’s message to Congress on Tuesday, expressed concern that expanding unemployment insurance coverage would lead to increased unemployment insurance taxes later on.

“The federal money in this bill will run out in less than three years for this benefit and our businesses would then be stuck paying the bill,” Jindal said. “We must be careful and thoughtful as we examine all the strings attached to the funding in this package. We cannot grow government in an unsustainable way.”

Jindal is one of a small group of Republican governors, which includes South Carolina’s Mark Sanford and Mississippi’s Haley Barbour, who have said they might refuse some or all of the stimulus money targeted to their states.

In an interview [today], Barbour said he, too, would likely decline funds for broadening access to unemployment insurance.

“Subject to learning more, my position is that Mississippi won’t accept funds that require us to have a tax increase later, because [they would force] us to change our rules for qualifying for unemployment compensation,” he said.

It is not clear which, if any, other parts of the stimulus funding Republican governors will decline. But initial suggestions that anti-stimulus governors might decline all the funds targeted for their states have faded.

Joel Sawyer, Sanford’s communications director, said the South Carolina governor was still reviewing his options with respect to the stimulus.

“We haven’t made any decisions on any part of the stimulus yet,” Sawyer said.

Gee, maybe the blue states should have refused the Bush regime’s orders to send their National Guard personnel to the Vietraq War, because that certainly wasn’t in the blue states’ best interests.

There are a whole host of things on which the blue states, for good reasons, could have and should have bucked the Bush regime — but did not.

So who in the fuck are these red states to refuse to be a part of the United States?

And why didn’t these Repugnican governors have any problem with billions and billions of American taxpayers’ dollars going to the war profiteers, such as Dick Cheney’s Halliburton, via the unelected Bush regime’s Vietraq War? They don’t want to help the unemployed, but they’ll wholeheartedly support bogus wars that result in the plundering of the U.S. Treasury by the war profiteers and result in the unnecessary deaths of thousands of U.S. military personnel (not to mention the unnecessary deaths of thousands upon thousands of innocent civilians).

The Repugnicans actually have no problem whatsofuckingever with high federal government spending, as evidenced by the fact that under the unelected Bush regime the federal budget deficit grew to an all-time high.

The Repugnicans just don’t want the federal government to spend any money in any way that actually benefits the common American — instead of giving the American taxpayers’ money away to war profiteers and other crooked Repugnican cronies.

How about the red states that have a problem with the fact that the majority of Americans democratically elected a black man as president just go ahead and secede from the union now?

We don’t need them anyway — more federal tax dollars go to the dumbfuck red states than the red states return to the U.S. Treasury. The red states are welfare states anyway, so it’s rather ironic that their governors would refuse any portion of the funds from the economic stimulus package.

While I long have thought that a second civil war to polish off the red states, which only drag down the entire nation, sure would be nice, we can avoid the bloodshed and just let the ignoramuses secede.

Hell, we can even build walls dividing the treasonous red states from the blue states.

Why do we blue-staters continue to kiss red-state ass?

Why do we continue to tolerate the red-staters and the Repugnicans telling us that our not blindly supporting their unelected mass-murdering dictator, George W. Bush, amounted to treason on our part, yet here are the very same red-staters and Repugnicans refusing to cooperate with our president who actually was democratically elected?

Red states, please, please, please secede and see how long you make it on your own. And, my fellow blue-staters, let’s let them secede this time.

Updated (Saturday, February 21, 2009):

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Repugnican who has to be a moderate in order to survive politically in the very blue state of California, jokes(?) that he’ll be happy to accept for California any of the economic stimulus funds that other states’ Repugnican governors refuse. Reports Politico today:

Fresh off a grueling budget battle in his state, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said [today] that if fellow Republican governors threatening to turn down stimulus funds follow through on their pledge, he’d be happy to have their share.

“Everyone has their own way of thinking,” Schwarzenegger said of those governors in an interview with Politico at the National Governors Association‘s annual meeting. “I just hope they give me their funding.”

Schwarzenegger supports President Barack Obama‘s $778 billion stimulus, but four Republican governors have said they may reject some of the stimulus funds….

I don’t expect the red-state governors actually to refuse much, if any, of the stimulus funds. I think that for political gain they just want to look like they’re rejecting the “socialism” of the economic stimulus package, when, in fact, as I noted, their states are welfare states supported by the blue states anyway, so I anticipate that they’ll take the free money from the blue states, as they always have.

Wingnut monkeyshines!

This cartoon image provided by the New York Post appeared in ...

Associated Press graphic

Some people believe that this rather poor editorial cartoon that appeared today in the right-wing rag the New York Post is a racist comparison of President Barack Obama to a chimpanzee, and thus, by extension, a reference to the assassination of the president.

I think it’s more likely that it’s just a bad editorial cartoon.

The severe mauling of a woman by a chimpanzee (and the subsequent shooting to death of the chimp by police) in Connecticut on Monday is not something that I would choose to make fun of, but the wingnuts easily are able to laugh at others’ misery and pain and suffering (just like Jesus would do!).

Nor is the Post’s editorial cartoon very funny. The link of the passage of the economic stimulus package in our democratic process (the wingnuts always have to be reminded of that pesky little thing called democracy) to the chimp-mauling incident is a rather weak link (the editorial cartoonist, too, I surmise, is a rather weak link…).

However, I wouldn’t automatically assume that the cartoonist meant the dead chimp to represent President Obama. Hopefully, the editorial cartoonist was trying to say that the economic stimulus package, in his wingnutty opinion, is so poor that it must have been written by a chimpanzee (ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!).

Years ago, when I worked on my university’s student newspaper, our editorial cartoonist drew an editorial cartoon on the topic of a proposed race-based student admissions policy. The tag line of the editorial cartoon went something like, “Eeny, meeny, miny, mo…” — the children’s rhyme that you use when you are picking something or someone.

Of course, the white-supremacist version of that would be “Eeny, meeny, miny, mo; catch a nigger by the toe. If he hollers, let him go; eeny, meeny, miny, mo.”

I knew the editorial cartoonist well enough to know that that that was not the intent of his cartoon; if memory serves, both he and I were thinking of the non-white-supremacist version, “catch a tiger by the toe.”

However, the cartoon nonetheless raised quite a lot of controversy among African-American students, as it should have.

I, as the managing editor who had to make too many decisions because the editor in chief was never around, should have caught the worst-case-scenario interpretation of the editorial cartoon and should have stopped its publication — or, better, asked the cartoonist to amend his cartoon in order to clarify his intent.

But I just didn’t see the ’toon in the white-supremacist light, and so the ’toon ran, and I, as the managing editor whose editor in chief in absentia ad nauseum didn’t want to handle anything unpleasant, had to (try to…) explain to the university’s enraged African-American students what the editorial cartoonist’s intent was. (Oh, what fun that was…) To this day I doubt that they believed my explanation.

Because of that personal experience, I will extend the benefit of the doubt to the Post, as loathesome as the Post is.

Running an editorial cartoon that just isn’t funny, however, is difficult to forgive…

Stimulate me! Shock and awe me!

I’m no economist and so up until now I haven’t written anything about the $790 billion economic stimulus package that the Democrats pushed through the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.

As the economic experts seem to be uncertain on how effective the stimulus package will be, I don’t feel very qualified to judge one way or another, but shit, I’m happy just to be able to write the phrase “that the Democrats pushed through the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.” Eight long nightmarish years of unelected Repugnican rule are finally fucking over.

And I like how one Associated Press piece referred to the stimulus package as domestic “shock and awe”:

WASHINGTON – America is bringing shock and awe to the home front, using dollars instead of bombs.

It’s the military doctrine of lightning force — fast and brute, or as brute as the shaken country can manage — applied to the campaign for economic recovery.

With a record-busting stimulus plan, the U.S. is marshaling resources against economic catastrophe in ways not seen since Franklin Roosevelt put the New Deal in motion.

President Barack Obama is going with the best deal he could get. The stimulus bill is a landmark legislative achievement for a new president who inherited economic spoilage along with the spoils of power. Now the nation anxiously waits to see if it works.

Undermining federal balance sheets that were already deeply in the red, Obama and Congress settled on a nearly $800 billion plan that aims to spend more on the crisis at hand than the government has spent waging the Iraq war for six years.

The idea: fast cash, and lots of it, but with a strategic view to the future.

Some dollars will flow quickly into wallets — and right out again.

The stimulus plan will mean thousands of dollars in tax breaks for first-time home buyers and people buying new cars. Lower- and middle-income taxpayers will get an extra $13 a week in their paychecks this year, and about $8 a week next year. Unemployment checks will go up $25 a week, and keep coming longer. Food stamp benefits for 30 million Americans will rise. Short-term health insurance will become more affordable for many losing their jobs.

The success of the stimulus package may be measured less by visible achievements than by what does not happen — the home that is not foreclosed, the family that doesn’t slip into poverty, the disease that does not go undiagnosed.

“The one thing we’ll never know is what would have happened if we didn’t do it,” said Nigel Gault, chief U.S. economist for IHS Global Insight….

To critics such as Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, the package is the “Europeanization of America.” Others call it “Rooseveltian” or “generational theft” in reference to the debt passed on to the future….

Democrats and just enough Republicans in Congress — three — saw the package as the best chance to tamp down the economic wildfires breaking out across the landscape.

Obama came into office saying he wished to be judged on his first 1,000 days instead of the usual benchmark of 100. In some ways he will be judged on his first 10 or 20.

Not even Roosevelt, fast off the mark to deal with a bank crisis, was as fast as this in achieving something so sweeping, so early.

The enormity of the package left politicians grasping for concrete ways to convey its size.

Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., spoke of a stack of hundred-dollar bills 689 miles high, and of bills wrapped side-by-side that would encircle the Earth nearly 39 times….

I’ll tell you what was “generational theft,” as Repugnican John McCainosaurus and his ilk like to call it: the theft of the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections and the unelected Bush regime’s March 2003 illegal, immoral, unprovoked and unjustified launch of the bogus Vietraq War, which has cost the nation hundreds of billions of dollars — not to mention the cost of thousands upon thousands of Iraqi civilian and American military lives, all for nothing but the fucking greed of the fucking war profiteers, such as Dick Cheney’s Halliburton.

And funny how the treasonous Repugnicans never pontififuckingcated on how many times the dollars spent on the bogus Vietraq War would encircle the earth, but they’ll bitch and moan about how many times the dollars spent on the American people would encircle the earth.

The Repugnicans are fucking traitors who want to continue to funnel the nation’s resources to those few who already have the lion’s share of the nation’s resources while the typical American continues to sink. Anyone who actually cares about his or ner nation and thus wishes to stop the Repugnicans’ treasonous theft of the nation’s dwindling resources is branded as “socialist” or “communist” or the like.

Fuck the Repugnicans. May they be out of power forfuckingever.

As I said, I’m no economist, but when I read such things as that every single fucking Repugnican member of the U.S. House of Representatives voted against the stimulus package and only three Repugnicans in the U.S. Senate — all moderates who would like to be re-elected — voted for it, I just have to figure that if the treasonous, pro-rich, anti-middle class and anti-poor Repugnicans, who in their eight years of unelected rule almost completely destroyed the American empire, are that solidly against something that the Democrats want to do, then it must be good for the American people.

The hypocritical Repugnicans have no problem whatsofuckingever spending billions of the American taxpayers’ dollars — only as long as it’s spent on death and destruction in bogus wars (against Muslims and Arabs, preferably) for the obscene profits of the war profiteers, such as Dick Cheney’s Halliburton.

To actually spend the American taxpayers’ dollars on the American taxpayers — why, that’s just communism!
