Our national Rorschach test results

Updated below

NorthJersey.com image

We didn’t have just a bombing in Boston yesterday, did we? We had a national Rorschach test, didn’t we? We have seen what we have been predisposed to see, haven’t we?

The folks at Westboro Baptist Church say that yesterday’s terrorist attack in Boston was God’s punishment for Massachusetts’ having instituted same-sex marriage. I guess that would be God’s very delayed reaction, since Massachusetts instituted same-sex marriage way back in 2004.

Sadly and pathetically, police have questioned a 20-year-old man from Saudi Arabia attending school in Boston apparently primarily because he was At the Boston Marathon While Arab. Reportedly a bystander who had appointed himself a modern-day Paul Revere tackled the Arab man, who apparently looked suspicious! because he was an Arab-looking man running away from the blasts — go figure! I mean, the normal human response would be to run toward the blasts, into harm’s way, right? And what was an Arab man doing at the Boston Marathon anyway?

(The young Arab man’s roommate says that he’s very most likely innocent. I have to agree. This very most likely is a case of racial profiling, it seems to me. I hope that the Paul Revere who tackled the Arab man is brought to justice — that he at least is sued by the Arab man, if not also criminally prosecuted for the apparent assault and battery.)

Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones (another paranoid, right-leaning white man) has posited that the U.S. government perpetrated the bombings in order to discredit and oppress the members of the so-called “tea party” and like-minded individuals.

Never mind that such a so-called “false-flag” operation would be incredibly difficult to pull off. Who would be willing to perpetrate it, knowing that he (or she) might be caught and prosecuted one day? And who would order it to be done, knowing that he or she also might be caught and prosecuted one day? Think of the number of people who would have to cooperate in such an operation. How would you ensure that none of them ever talked?

And never mind that the “tea party” peaked a long time ago and today is a but a shadow of its former self. You would go that far to try to weaken or destroy the “tea party” or any other political group only if it actually had a lot of power and influence.

That the wingnuts pre-emptively claim that yesterday’s terrorist attack is only being blamed on the wingnuts in order to discredit the wingnuts does not mean, of course, that homegrown wingnuts did not perpetrate the crime.

Taken all together, it sure looks like homegrown wingnutty terrorism to me.

Besides being Tax Day, yesterday also was Patriots’ Day, a day that is obscure here in California but that is big in Massachusetts and in Maine. (Indeed, the Boston Marathon is held in conjunction with Patriots’ Day.)

Patriots’ Day is celebrated on the third Monday in April. It was on Patriots’ Day in 1995 that homegrown wingnutty terrorist Timothy McVeigh, a disaffected young white man (if we want to do any racial profiling…), bombed the federal building in Oklahoma City.

So: Tax Day. Patriots’ Day (Timothy McVeigh’s chosen day for his act of domestic terrorism, in which 168 people were killed). The city of Boston’s symbolism of revolution against oppressive taxation and an oppressive government (McVeigh believed that he was crusading against an oppressive federal government). Massachusetts being a dark-blue state, a bastion of liberalism. (My guess is that a homegrown wingnutty terrorist most likely would attack a real or perceived liberal population rather than a conservative one or even a mixed one.)

Again, I can’t see the “Islamofascists” having perpetrated yesterday’s terrorist attack in Boston. This looks like an inside job to me, and by “inside job” I don’t mean by the Obama administration or by any part of the U.S. government (as much as a fan of the center-right Obama administration and the center-right U.S. government that I am not).

A professional “Islamofascist” terrorist organization would have killed more than just three people, it seems to me. This seems like a much more amateurish terrorist job.

The only real question that remains in my mind is how many people perpetrated yesterday’s terrorist attack.

My guess is that at least two or three people were involved, but I suppose that we can’t rule out a “lone wolf” like then-32-year-old Norweigan right-wing nutjob Anders Behring Breivik, who in July 2011 slaughtered 77 people whom he considered the enemy because he perceived them (correctly or not) as liberal.

Ironically, Breivik hates Muslims, as do his Islamophobic cohorts here at home, yet it seems to me that as a gay man and a left-winger, I’m more likely to be killed by one of these domestic “Christo”fascists that I’m ever likely to be snuffed out by an “Islamofascist.” I am much more concerned about our wonderful homegrown terrorists than I am about terrorists from abroad.

These are the results of my own Rorschach test, but my test results, I wager, are much more likely to be shown to be the actual case than are the other results that I’ve been reading about.

Update: My bad: Apparently Timothy McVeigh picked the date of April 19, 1995, to bomb the Oklahoma City federal building because that date marked the second anniversary of the siege in Waco, Texas, in 1993. April 17, not April 19, was Patriots’ Day in 1995. (Patriots’ Day was on April 19 in 1993, however.)

McVeigh may not even have been aware of Patriots’ Day, it seems to me.

Donald Trump, president of pettiness

When I wrote that I hope that Donald Trump runs for president, I didn’t mention that Trump’s “platform” thus far has consisted — solely, as far as I can tell — of questioning where President Barack Obama was born.

I didn’t mention that because (1) Trump couldn’t win the White House anyway, no matter what; (2) Obama’s birth certificate is an uber-non-issue; and (3) my previous post on Trump was about political strategy, not about the fucking birth certificate.

But now that Obama himself has released his full, long-form birth certificate, I’ll finally write about the fucking birth certificate.*

First of all, the die-hard “birthers” aren’t going to accept the full birth certificate or any document that Obama might put forth. They are going to continue with the conspiracy theories with which they have so much of an emotional, irrational investment. They reject Obama with every white supremacist fiber of their being — primarily because he’s half-black — and no document on the fucking planet is going to change that.

This is fine. These conspiracy theorists are a whackjob minority. Minority. Obama didn’t need to release his full birth certificate in order to win re-election. I might argue that in the political long term, the better political strategy might have been for Obama to allow the crackpots to continue to stew, increasing his chances for re-election in 2012.

Those who never would vote for a black person for president never would vote for a black person for president anyway. Those are votes that permanently are lost to the white supremacist/racist Repugnican Tea Party.

It would have been better for Team Obama to continue to allow the “birthers” to turn off the undecideds, it seems to me, since it’s the undecideds (a.k.a. “swing” or “independent” voters) who — as amazing as it is that anyone could even be undecided — who apparently determine presidential elections these days, terrifyingly. (Well, when the radical right-wingers on the U.S. Supreme Court aren’t deciding the “winners” of our presidential elections, that is, of course.)

And then there is Trump.

“I am really honored to play such a big role in hopefully, hopefully getting rid of this issue,” Trump trumpeted in response to the release of Obama’s full birth certificate.

Trump already has demonstrated that he’s way too fucking petty to be president of the United States of America.

With the nation’s economy still in shambles — with China expected to overtake the United States as the world’s largest economy by 2016, with the Repugnican Tea Party’s “path to prosperity” being a disastrous plan to allow the rich and the super-rich pay even less in taxes than they already do and to destroy Medicare, and with neither of the duopolistic parties seriously talking about seriously cutting the bloated budget of the military-industrial complex, which would be key to solving the nation’s federal budget deficit — we have had Donald Trump stating that he feels “honored” to have played “such a big role” in the “issue” of where Barack Obama was born.

Identifying the nation’s most pressing problems, and then acting to solve them — isn’t that the main role of the president of the United States of America?

Thus far, all that Trump has done is jumped onto the nutjob bandwagon.

Of course, being wealthy himself, and with his future being fairly secure, why should he care about what the rest of us care about — the nation’s economy and the security of our future (including, of course, protecting Medicare from the raping, plundering and pillaging of the profiteering privateers)?

Donald Trump has the luxury of being able to focus on petty political myths.

The rest of us have much, much bigger fish to fry.

The one glaring hole in all of the Obama conspiracy theories — I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again — is to actually believe that after the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars that both Billary Clinton and John McCainosaurus had at their disposal to conduct opposition research on Obama in their own quests to win the White House in 2008, there was something damaging about him — and something pretty big — that their investigators/researchers failed to find. This is rather unfuckinglikely.

Obama’s die-hard haters are going to remain his haters. He needs to write them off if he hasn’t already.

Instead of trying to appease the haters who never are going to cast a vote for him anyway, Obama should be groveling on his hands and knees for the forgiveness of and for the support of members of the “professional left” like me who don’t plan to vote for him in November 2012 or to give him a fucking penny toward his re-election — not because we are wrapped up in racism-inspired conspiracy theories, but because we’re still waiting for that “hope” and “change” that he promised us back in 2007 and 2008.

P.S. This is a gem. The Associated Press reports that:

In a statement after Obama spoke [about the release of his long-form birth certificate], Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus called the issue a distraction — and yet blamed Obama for playing campaign politics by addressing it.

“The president ought to spend his time getting serious about repairing our economy,” Priebus said. “Unfortunately, his campaign politics and talk about birth certificates is distracting him from our number one priority — our economy.”

I’m often not sure if Priebus and his ilk are liars or are insane.

Clearly, Donald Trump — not Obama — has been making Obama’s birth certificate into an “issue.”

To blame Obama for responding to the “issue” is to blame the victim, which seems to be the Repugnican Tea Party traitors’ favorite pastime, such as how they blame the working class and the middle class for the nation’s economic collapse instead of the treasonous Wall Street crooks who still remain free.

And the assertion that the Repugnican Tea Party — which especially during the eight, long, nightmarish years of unelected rule by the BushCheneyCorp allowed the Wall Street weasels to loot the treasury — truly cares about our economic recovery is like the assertion that the incompetent surgeon who seriously botched your surgery really cares about your health. (And to assert that handing Medicare over to the profiteering private wealth care weasels and that to reduce the taxes for the rich and the super-rich even more is going to help the economy is like having that incompetent surgeon who amputated your wrong leg “fix” the problem by amputating all of your limbs.)

*If you are interested in background on the birth certificate brouhaha, The Associated Press gives this fairly good backgrounder:

The short-form [birth] certificate [that] Obama’s campaign released in 2008 is a legally recognized document, the one Hawaii residents receive when they request proof of their birth. Anyone who wants a copy of the more detailed, long form document must submit a waiver request, and have that request approved by Hawaii’s health department.

Obama submitted his waiver request last week, asking for two certified copies. His personal counsel, Judith Corley, also submitted a letter on Obama’s behalf, saying the president was asking for a waiver so he could make the certificate publicly available and relieve the burden on the health department by the numerous requests it receives for records of his birth.

Hawaii’s health director, Loretta Fuddy, responded with a letter of own dated April 25, approving the waiver request. Corley traveled to Hawaii to pick up the documents and carried them back to Washington on a plane. The documents arrived at the White House around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The White House has released copies of each of the letters.

The newly released [long-form] certificate is signed by the delivery doctor, Obama’s mother and the local registrar. His mother, then 18, signed her name (Stanley) Ann Dunham Obama.

The form says [that] Barack Hussein Obama II was born at 7:24 p.m. on Aug. 4, 1961, at Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital, within the city limits of Honolulu.

There’s no mention of religion. It says his father, Barack Hussein Obama, age 25, was African and born in Kenya and his mother was Caucasian and born in Wichita, Kan. Obama’s mother and the doctor signed the certificate on Aug. 7 and 8.

Hawaii’s registrar certified the new photocopy of the document provided to the White House on April 25, 2011.

It’s not because he wasn’t born here, but because he was born while black

White supremacists, a.k.a. “birthers,” seem to believe that they’re going to undo the will of the majority of American voters — again — by going after President Barack Obama, whose legitimate birth certificate from the state of Hawaii is shown above. I say to the birthers: Over this white man’s dead body will you once again subvert the will of the majority of the American voters like you did with George W. Bush.

As I have written recently, I hate it when people cry racism without apparent good cause, but I cannot think of any reason other than racism that some wingnuts are obsessed over whether or not President Barack Obama meets the constitutional requirements of nativity for a U.S. president.

First of all, many if not most of the “birthers” — who assert that Obama legally cannot be president because he doesn’t meet the U.S. Constitution’s nativity requirements — think that it would be Awesome! if Austrian-born Repugnican California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger could be U.S. president (you don’t have to be a natural-born citizen to be California governor). Some of these wingnuts even have called for the U.S. Constitution to be changed — so that Schwarzenegger specifically can run for president.

And where in the fuck were the “birthers” when the BushCheneyCorp blatantly stole the White House in late 2000, even though Democrat Al Gore had won the popular vote by more than half a million votes and even though he won the pivotal state of Florida as well? Where was the sanctity of the office of president to the “birthers” then?

No, you see, the “problem” is that George W. Bush and Schwarzenegger are white men, and Barack Obama was BWB — born while black.

It’s good enough for me that the same 5-4 U.S. Supreme Court that ignored the will of the majority of American voters and installed George W. Bush (instead of the victor, Al Gore) into the White House in late 2000 has refused to hear the “birthers'” “legal” “arguments” that Obama legally can’t be president. Like the U.S. Supreme Court would have passed up another chance to pick a Repugnican “president” over the will of the majority of the American voters!

But this nails the birthers’ coffin shut for me (from The Associated Press):

Honolulu – State officials in Hawaii [today] said they have once again checked and confirmed that President Barack Obama was born in Hawaii and is a natural-born American citizen, and therefore meets a key constitutional requirement for being president.

They hoped to stem a recent surge in the number of inquiries about Obama’s birthplace.

“I … have seen the original vital records maintained on file by the Hawaii State Department of Health verifying [that] Barack Hussein Obama was born in Hawaii and is a natural-born American citizen,” Health Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said in a brief statement. “I have nothing further to add to this statement or my original statement issued in October 2008 over eight months ago.”

So-called “birthers” — who claim Obama is ineligible to be president because, they argue, he was actually born outside the United States — have grown more vocal recently on blogs and television news shows.

Fukino issued a similar press release Oct. 31, but was prompted to speak out again because of the renewed attention on Obama’s beginnings. Hawaii’s Health Department has been flooded in recent weeks with questions from individuals and several national TV news networks asking for proof that Obama was indeed born in Hawaii.

“They just keep asking over and over and over again,” Health Department spokeswoman Janice Okubo said.

The Constitution states that a person must be a “natural-born citizen” to be eligible for the presidency. Birthers contend that Obama’s birth certificate is a fake, and many say he was actually born in Kenya, his father’s homeland. They’ve challenged his citizenship in court….

And they’ve lost in court. No court of law, all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court, has found for the “birthers.”

It’s sad, sick and pathetic. So anathema to these white supremacists is a non-white president that they maintain, against all available evidence and in the midst of the fact that every court of law shoots down their bullshit claims, that Barack Obama isn’t legitimately president.

They use the birth certificate “issue” as their “argument” because they can’t just come right out and say that their main problem with Obama is that he’s black.

These motherfuckers apparently want another fucking civil war on their hands, challenging the legitimacy of President Barack Obama — who, whether you like him or not, was elected fairly and squarely by a clear majority of the American people — when their own fucking last “president,” George W. Bush, was the most illegitimate “president” in U.S. history, first “elected” and then “re”-“elected” under the dark clouds of election fraud. (But he was white, you see, so that was perfectly OK.)

I say that we blue staters give that civil war to the “birthers” — and that we finish the job this time.

P.S. I forgot to mention that of course the presidential campaign of Billary Clinton or John McCainosaurus would have seized upon the Obama nativity issue were there any substance to it.

You think that Billary didn’t want the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination? You think that the Repugnicans didn’t want to keep the White House?

You don’t think that between Team Billary and Team McCainosaurus, every Obamastone was overturned?

So that’s three strikes against the “birthers'” bullshit conspiracy theory (in no certain order): the U.S. Supreme Court refused to get involved in the matter; Obama of course was fully investigated by the Clinton and the McCainosaurus campaigns; and the Hawaii state government says (repeatedly) that Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961.

Even the evilly insane Ann Cunter says that the “birthers” are full of shit.

Case absofuckinglutely closed.
